My Mom is cooking squash now, and husband is roasting the turkey on Saturday morning. See you all soon!

(I would insert a smiley face if I knew how.)

Now it's out to a holiday dinner with hubby and some friends.

See some of you in the afternoon tomorrow. The rest of you will be missing a great dinner!

We are bringing my Mom, who is in poor health and has just moved in with us. I know the Georgia Street community will make her feel welcome!

I still have one more 10 lb. bag of mashed potatoes to make. Four pumpkin pies made and someone's sick kid I had to take care of today...she's not coming, though.

I think I'm mashed-potatoed out.

See you tomorrow!

I feel like a total under-achiever! I've got one cake baked and I am getting ready to make a chocolate trifle right now. I'm making 3 desserts total, so one down, 2 to go. :-) I may make a 4th one, if I have enough leftover ingredients.

I look forward to meeting all of you!

Cub, I wish you had told us to bring something. I feel like we're being left out of the cooking process! :-)

Scs100, there might still be some food items that are needed. On 11/30 it was posted that these items are still needed:

Mashed potatoes
Stuffing
Gravy
More cool whip
More pies
More cranberry sauce

Well, if Cub needs them, we can get pies rather quickly. I dunno if we have any pie crust left here though to make them.

After further discussion on my end, we can do at least one tomorrow here (along with bringing cool whip). Someone just needs to tell us what kind of pie to bring.

Scs, I am sorry. I promise we can never have too many pies. Thanks everybody. I am getting RSVPs from neighbors who are very excited. I can't remember ever seeing this amount of anxiosness in the neighborhood.

We will bring turkey and squash in aluminum containers (lasagna-sized) that can be heated up in an oven.

Milk will be in a picnic cooler (or kept outside?), to save room in the GS refrigerator for other things.

We will not be there by 3:00 due to another volunteer obligation earlier in the day. But we will be there before 5.

I know I said we would be there for sure. Things changed a bit. We attended our friend, who was murdered, funeral viewing and Ron passed out, probably stress. We spent 10 hours in ER. He hit his head and did some major damage to his face. Good news is all tests came back good. Bad news is he looks like hell. Sorry we won't be there, we were looking forward to it. Hope all turns out great for your feast.

Sumas: Our best wishes to you and Ron for a speedy recovery from his injuries. Of course, that is much more important. There will be many other chances for you to join us. Thanks for all your efforts. Take care!

I have no idea where they got we were feeding the homeless. The press release didn't state anything about homelessness. But I guess I can be grateful for the media attention.

Well, I made a quick stop to drop off some desserts and was happy to meet a few forumers .....Blueidone, scs100, vivadetroit and finally, Cub. By the way, that's a perfect nickname for him, he gives a wonderful big, bear hug:-) I hope I didn't forget anybody! Would have loved to stay but I am nursing strained back muscles and a bit of a broken heart so a night at home on the sofa is really the best place for me to be tonight.

I know the evening is going to be a success and look forward to hearing everybody's reports later. :-)

The dinner was a success! Our first guests showed up at 4:40 p.m. and waited patiently for their meal. Soon, we had kids who helped in the garden and then families coming.

We fed about 80-90 people and everyone was so grateful and left with a full tummy & bulging carryout containers. We expected more people, but the snow & cold most likely deterred many people from coming out.

Our DetroitYes family was so supportive of the event that we had a TON of food leftover, so we took the remaining food to a homeless shelter on Third Ave & MLK in downtown. They were very appreciative of our enormous donation of turkey, ham, pasta, stuffing, potatoes, pies and other goodies. They were so grateful for our generosity. And we did "feed the homeless" like the DetroitNews had. LOL.

I'd like to say thanks x 1000 to everyone who helped: Cub, MamaCub, Blueidone & hubby, Mashgruskie & 3 little helpers (who did a fabulous job, btw!), Gnome, AlsoDave, DaveMarc, Scs100 & parents, PlymouthRes, Crystal & Randy & Mom (thanks for bringing Bailey, the super cute pup again!), ErieDearie, Mschievous, Tkierpiec, Sumas & Ron, Dave & Kathleen, girlygirl313, and Cman. We could not have pulled this off without all of you. Seriously. We are doing wonderful things for this community & making a big impact. I can only imagine how much bigger & better our 2nd Annual Dinner will be next year.

And a special thank you to Scs100, who spent his birthday with us. Hope you had a memorable birthday!

I second what Viva said, and add her name to that list. It was a very heart-warming day to see everyone working together to help this community. Happy Birthday again, Scs100! And thank you again to everyone who donated and/or helped out.
