It is so heartwarming to see this list of volunteers growing! It brought to mind a poem I heard many years ago. It took a little searching, but I found it... Volunteers --Author Unknown Many will be shocked to find, When the day of judgment nears, That there's a special place in Heaven, Set aside for volunteers. Furnished with big recliners, Satin couches and footstools, Where there are no committee chairmen, No yard sales or rest area coffee to serve, No library duty or bulletin assembly, There will be nothing to print or staple, Not one thing to fold or mail, Telephone lists will be outlawed. But a finger snap will bring Cool drinks and gourmet dinners And rare treats fit for a king. You ask, "Who'll serve these privileged And work for all they're worth?" Why, all those who reaped the benefits, And not once volunteered on Earth. Something to remember when, at the end of the day of working for hours, you are so tired you think you can't stand up for another minute! Thank you...thank you...thank you for giving your time and energy to helping realize Cub's vision. |

Viva - I've looked numerous times in my mailbox for your reply, it's not there. I resent my email just in case you had not received it the 1st time. Let me know in case I get to cross the border later this week or early next week. |

I talked this evening to Barbara Hayes, the Executive Director for the Detroit Garden Center. She was very interested in The Georgia Community Gardens and would like to feature your project in the next quarterly Garden Center Newsletter. More important is that Barb has run the centers outreach program for Alternative for Girls for several years. This is a once a week program teaching crafts and life skills from a green perspective to at risk girls aged 8 to 14. She can provide invaluable insight into what projects works well for a broad range in kids age groups. She was very impressed with how quickly you have organized the garden and all your community outreach programs. She could be a great resource person for you. She is a an advanced master gardner and an all around great person. I gave her your number but don't hesitate to call her at the garden center 313 259-6363. |

Erie, check your spam box. I sent it to my own email & it ended up in the spam box. Cub just sent it to you too, so look for his email. Not sure why that did that. Sorry! |

I will donate a ham and try to deliver Sunday. I am in a personal funk. Had two choices for volunteering time and instead I went back to bed. Slept all day. This is a great project/program, I hope my internal energy revives by spring and can help with the garden. |

Awesome! We should be in Detroit again (full time) starting in December. I'm going to tell Kally about this, and check our plans. She's interested in some of the things you guys have done, but haven't been able to make it out there with the moving around and this past Summer's high gas prices. The stars are finally aligning. |

We had a great time yesterday helping out. It was great to meet those who came out for the first time and to reconnect with those we have met before. It is amazing how much work a small group of dedicated people can complete in a short time. |

Thanks Sumas for the ham offering! Don't worry about not coming yesterday, it was a perfect day for sleeping. And if you slept all day, guess you needed it. |

It was great to meet you today Sumas & Ronaldj! your dog is so cute! Thanks to everyone who came out & braved the cold & rain to help us. Big thanks to DaveMarc for bringing the heater & to Blue for the cafe & cookies. It was nice to see everyone again & meet new faces! Hope you all come out again. Here's some pix from the demo/cleanup. Sorry you've got to go to a link, but all of the pix would crash this site. Soon we'll have a permanent web site where everyone can go to check out what's going on at Georgia St. http://photobucket.com/georgia stdemoday |
