Fact: Detroit has witnessed many championship seasons on the part of its glorious professional teams.
Fact: Dozens of amateur athletes have represented Detroit in the Olympic Games; this thread is dedicated in their honor.
Here are just a few:
Eddie Tolan, Cass Tech HS: (1932) 100 & 200 meter dash - Gold Medalist
Lorenzo Wright, Miller HS: (1948) Long Jump - Bronze Medalist; 400 meter relay - Gold Medalist
Henry Carr, Northwestern HS: (1964) 200 meter dash & 1600 meter relay - Gold Medalist

The first one to come to mind that I remember was Sheila Young of Denby High School. She was a speed skater in the 70's and quite well known. She made the cover of Kelloggs corn flakes. |

Doug Brown born in Detroit went to HS at Harper Woods Notre Dame ran in 2 Olympics and qualified for the Moscow games which were boycotted, plus was an Asst. Coach in Atlanta in 1996.
