I'm there every two weeks in summer--part of the Automotive Heritage walk tour. I'll look at the plaque next time I'm there. And I'm going to use your information in the tour, Tony. Thanks!

You are welcome. I can't help with auto history .
I will help with D.F.D. history.Impress your guests. E.17 is a 2007 Pierce "Enforcer". L.17
is a 2003 Sutphen platform ladder.L.17 is one of three Sutphen platforms D.F.D. uses. The Sutphens are the work horses of the D.F.D. The bucket nozzles can deliver 1,000 G.P.M.(water).Just hope no one asks a question you can't answer.

Lodgedodger: Check the station dedication plaque as well as the "Last Alarm" plaque.
Appointment to the fire commission was a prestigious honor. Many of Detroits'prominente vied for the honor. Charles Clippert and George W Trendell sat on the commission at one time.Clippert owned a brick company.Supplied brick and maybe the wall tiles you saw.Trendell, among other accomplisments, produced the Lone Ranger.

I took pics of the Field Day but have to resize them to post (might take a while). I would have taken more but my poor nephew had a meltdown (it was continuous) because of the clowns. He DID NOT like them and everywhere he turned there were clowns. Blood-curdling scream and running were how he chose to meltdown. Needless to say, I was doing a lot of chasing and not enough picture taking.

On a happier note, the food was MUCH better this year...the burgers were actually edible and didn't taste like old shoe leather (the Zoo does the cooking). There were no Firebrat T-shirts and I really have no idea what happened to that plan. I haven't heard a thing about them and when I asked, the t-shirt folks didn't really know, so the person who was supposed to do the shirts may have gone through another person.

It was a great day except for a few raindrops (and the clowns scaring my 2 1/2 yr old nephew).
