Anyone see the highlights (or lowlights, for that matter) of the WNBA game between the Shock and Sparks? Bad Boy Rick Mahorn could have himself in deep doodoo following his actions?

Funny, at the 1:20 mark a Sparks player pushes Mahorn and punches him in the back.

Definitely not something we want to see in the WNBA. But athletes are athletes whether they are men or women. Baseball players storm out on the field quite frequently, but folks don't make a big deal about it.

One thing I will say is that all sports leagues need to institute a rule that says that players are not allowed to break up or assist in trying to break up fights between the sparring parties. Let the referees/umpires and arena/stadium security break up any melees.

It's the players running in from the bench or from other parts of the court/field that contribute to the ugliness of the fights. Some one comes in pushing someone in the back. That person pushes back, and then another player pushes that player.

In the incident last night, and after the initial two players were down on the court, you can clearly see Lisa Leslie breaking away from the referee, who's trying to hold her back, and then trying to go around others to get to one of her players who's on the floor with a Shock player. That's when Rick Mahorn steps in and tries to push her away. She wouldn't have fallen if she wasn't trying to break out of his grasp. Now, the Sparks player hitting Mahorn in the back twice should be severely fined and suspended. The Shock's Pierson and the Sparks Candace Parker should also be suspended and fined.

How much longer will Stern & the NBA continue to subsidize this silliness (and I don't mean the fighting)?

Funny, I heard one of Lisa Leslie's interviews and immediately thought, by her somber description of the events, that she was attempting to be a peace-keeper, seeking the safety of her team-mate. Granted, this is without having (yet) viewed the entire myriad of media on this subject.
