Does anyone know of a hill that one could park their car at and enjoy a view?

The northern portion of Oakland County is fairly hilly (with elevation as high as 1,000 feet). They say the views of downtown from up there are gorgeous.

Then there's the Irish Hills out in Jackson and Lenawee counties.

There's a park somewhere not far from the Ambassador bridge on the Canadian side that has a hill with a great view of the Detroit skyline.

40 years, and I'm still trying to find "Mt. Clemens".

Seriously, head up M-24 (Lapeer Rd.) to Drahner Rd. and head east about a mile. It's a dirt road so you can stop and enjoy the view.

Also, the visitors center at Stoney Creek Metropark on a clear day. You can see for miles and miles and miles and miles oh yeah.

You can see rencen from there on a clear day but bring your own binoculars. They removed the coin-operated ones.

Hey, come on a' my house. That's Black Mountain behind us. Nice trail up there, takes about two-three hours to get to the top. Helluva view of the whole Las Vegas valley.

Coach Insignia restaurant at the top of the Marriot hotel offers the best view. I'm sure the restaurant at top of the Motor city Casino has a good view.
If you looking for a sky line view of Detroit from a car then I would suggest crossing the boarder and driving north of Windsor. Head out Tecumseh Rd. There is a slight elevation of a hundred feet or so. It creates an optical illusion. Detroit seems to rise out of the corn fields and looks larger than life!

"I-75N Rouge Bridge"

I don't recommend parking your car up there.

Ashland ?

The best view I've seen in this area is from the point at Metro Beach. The last thing the setting Sun hits is the top of the Ren Cen. For about 2 minutes, it glows like a spark plug. Check it out sometime.

I believe Wolverine is thinking of Malden Park in Windsor. IMO, the greatest view of Detroit/Windsor.

A hill in SE Michigan? Are we geographically chalenged?

Mt. Clemens? Mt. Elliott?

IF those aren't what you had in mind try the Michigan Alps, which are lovely this time of year. :-)

My apologies, I am a geography major and am having a bit of fun.

Mescaline Mountain at Stoney Creek Park.

You can actually see the city skyline at dusk.

Watch out for Hippy Zombies though

The first tee at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington Township. Perfect framed view of the Detroit skyline on a clear day from 30 miles away!

I think that's called Twombly Mountain. It's a whopping 1145 ft high, but for southeast Mich it's not bad

Corner of 8 mile and Center Street in Northville where the old high school and water tower are located. You can drive to the top of the hill. Through the trees the Detroit skyline can be seen at night.

I have to 3rd the view from the Stony Creek Visitors Center.

Other good views are from the top floor at St. John Hospital on the east side... (the city and the Pointes look like a forest from up there)... and parts of Northwestern Hwy. going towards Detroit in Farmington Hills.

A bit of a thread jack...

You can't drive to the top, but the view from the top of Teeple Hill out in White lake Township is kind of cool. On a personal note, my ggrandfather was the first landowner of the place back in 1837. He bought 80 acres in White lake and another 80 next door in Highland twp. I have a copy of his land grants.

My grandfather saw his first car out there when Edsel Ford drove a Model T to the top of Teeple Hill ... backwards. The early T's had a gravity fed fuel system so if you wanted to go up a hill, you had to go up in reverse. Edsel ended up buying the property and built Haven Hill out there.

My favorite long-distance views of the area:

Malden Park, Windsor -- this offers a truly epic & panoramic view of Detroit and Windsor, encompassing everything from River Rouge, Detroit's skyline, out to the farthest eastern stretches of Windsor.

Northwestern Highway, traveling south from Middlebelt -- pretty good view of downtown from the median.

Dumping areas out by the Palace, in particular Dutton Road just east of US-24. Dutton crosses a large hill, and there is a radio tower at the side of the road at the highpoint. Climb up there for an amazing regional view -- everything from the city of Pontiac, Chrysler Headquarters, Silverdome, down to Southfield, and of course Detroit are all visible.

For an even better view, you could climb up to the top of the garbage dump above the Palace. I have not seen the view from up there, but it is considerably higher than the hill on Dutton and I imagine the view would be wonderful. This is NOT recommended for obvious reasons -- security will certainly catch & prosecute you & trespassing is a crime. Does anyone work there or know someone who works there who could get a shot for us? Same goes for the dump out on I-275.

Malden Park does have a great view, but you can't drive to the top of the hill. You can only walk or bike up it.
