Caught this in the Freep today... ...and I think that nothing but good will come of this. Attention to an entire portion of the population usually way below the radar...the foster children and especially young adults who've grown up through the system...as well as a magnifying glass on the city AND encouragement to other Hollywood production companies to migrate their operations our way. Go Rosie! |

Shows the sorry state of Detroit. Of all the basket case celebs picking a cause-du-jour, we get this blow-hard. Nice. |

Rosie does tend to be annoying but help comes in many forms and it should always be embraced. Anybody willing to lend support and their voice is a positive thing. |

Whatever you think of her personally, it's hard to disagree with her on this issue. |

She says she does (someone actually asked her on her website and she answered). Her wife bears a passing resemblance to the Gov. but without the moles. |

Oh my, you Michiganders really are new to this whole filmmaking business aren’t you? Could you possibly be naïve enough to think RO really cares about the people of Detroit? It’s called promotion, folks. More specifically, calculated self-promotion. She took advantage of the tax break$, investing some of her own money in a Michigan-based film venture. Now she needs to gain substantial ROI by creating some publicity. She’ll attempt this by appearing on GMA & Letterman in NYC in order to generate pathos. She’s rode that wagon so many times, it’s amazing the wheels are still attached (Rosie, tell us just one more time about how your mother died of cancer when you were just a girl---as if this has never happened to anyone else before). Is this woman really cynical enough to think Detroit is such a backwater hick town that every airport clerk and waiter is fawning over the sight of a C-Lister like herself? What a backhanded compliment. There’s no indication that she plans to move her production company to MI, or buy a home in MI, or even to schedule a return visit to promote the film from the “heartland” so her fans can see it first hand. That might indicate just the slightest hint of sincere commitment. |

Ya know, we really aren't attention whores here. She came here to film, provided some employment for a while, bought a Michigan built vehicle, and has said she'll probably film here again, providing some more employment when we need it. That's the purpose of the state incentives for the film industry and they seem to be working. If anyone talks us up beyond that it's just icing on the cake. We have our own homegrowns still in the area and contributing in various ways, too. (If you bother to check some history you'll find Michigan isn't new to filmmaking at all - go back far enough and you'll find that Ford Motor was at one time was the largest filmmaker around - remember filmmaking in the US started in the East and Midwest before fleeing West to escape winters and the Edison Trust.) quote:I'm not a huge fan, either, but she came to our state and SPENT money. And how much money did our state government give her film company in the way of tax credits for spending that money during her temporary project? Yet the companies who actually maintain a 24/7/365 presence here in our state and pay taxes on their payroll, profits and real property can't even get a bone thrown their way from Lansing. The unspoken message out of Lansing is clear - those businesses are already here and we don't need any more of their kind. The state wants to bring some more economic diversity here. Trust them, they know how to find and pick winners - "upper hand", etc. Today's "winners" (the film industry) will be here only as long as we can afford to keep giving out those huge tax credits and rebates. When it comes time to treat them like the other "losers" who are here 24/6/365, they will just pack up their tractor trailers and move on down the road to some other state who wants to throw money at them. Rosie gets it all right, she's a savvy businesswoman and relentless self-promoter. |

Hate the sinner, love the ah' sin? Rosie's genuine here I think. She bought an Enclave, filmed here, used local talent. What did Clint Eastwood do or say in a more specific to Detroit role? |

Well, he put a big, fat Made in Michigan across his closing credits, and, being who he is (Cali based major star & director), drew a lot of attention this way. |

Onthe405, EXCUUUUUUSSEEE us hicks here in Michigan. Maybe we don't give a ratfuck about what goes on with Britney Spears and all those "A" listers that spew out of Hollywood... but Michiganians do have a special place in their hearts for Californian's who ACTUALLY buy American cars... Excuse us for not keeping track if she's not an "A" lister... we've got more important things to worry about than watching that Entertainment Tonight crap that spews from your neck of the woods... You may not care for Rosie... but for whomever you think should be worthy of adoration... we don't care!! (Message edited by Gistok on February 21, 2009) |
