Has anyone been inside the new hotel yet?

(Waiting for Cheddar to ask why I don't just go and randomly stay there :-)).

No, but I booked rooms for 2 visits this spring and summer for Tiger games. Can't beat $99 a night. Regular rates are going to be around $129-139 so with its location, this place will be full every weekend through baseball and football seasons.

Have they finished with the streets/sidewalks yet around the construction site? Walking is the best part of Greektown and badly need sidewalk/lighting improvements.

More importantly, sean, where are the bathroom attendants going to be? Because after all, every casino, and high end restaurant and club in the area have bathroom attendants, right?

How about if you go check it out yourself and tell us what you find out. You don't have to stay the night there, just go look around. Just like you don't have to buy anything in local stores. Instead of asking stupid questions, you could go take a look for yourself. It's free and you're a local now.

I don't want to hear any whining excuses about how busy you are, either. If you've got the time to ask stupid questions, you've got time to take a walk.

I was surprised how this was tucked away. Didn't both of the other casinos gets massive newspaper coverage for their opening days? I realize Greektown's recent troubles, but the story ran almost as if it were an "also ran" story.

Nice to see that the rates will be more affordable, I'll definitely have to take a looksie. Although the MGM is my favorite gaming floor of the three, I'm not going to be ponying up $299+ (MGM rate) for one night anytime soon. As 401Don said, you can't beat the location/surrounding amenities of Greektown, either.

Does Greektown have a pool?

Cheddar, what would we do without you? :-)

I have been using the garage every so often. I was actually in the casino portion just last week, and yep, there was a washroom steward standing guard, just like every other time I've been in there :-). Unfortunately, they erected a construction wall for the final lobby work, so I couldn't see much of anything inside the hotel tower lobby. You can see into the actual rooms from the parking garage stairwell windows. The rooms have been furnished for awhile, as was mentioned in a previous thread.

I finally made it by the new Greektown Hotel today. Most of the barricades around the tower have been removed. The street level lobby entrance is on Saint Antoine. Once inside the hotel, you'll see a soaring contemporary Greek lobby. There is a long fire place as the center piece on the mezzanine above. The lobby is draped in huge white cloth, and there is some sort of hanging Yellow Christmas Tree above some Purple modern furniture in a small seating area to the left. To the right is a bar which I did not enter, but occupies the retail space on the Monroe and Saint Antoine corner.

Unfortunately, the bar windows are heavily tinted from Monroe, so it does not add much to the street scene. The remainder of the retail on Monroe appears to be filled with office space and a meeting/board room. It would appear that the hotel signals more of the end of walkable Greektown, rather than an extension of it.

I'm very interested to hear other people's reviews and thoughts on the look and feel of the property and color changing glass tower and lighting. It sure is very different than what was planned on the Gratiot site.
