The Lorenzo Cultural Center, Macomb Community College presents The Sixties: A Decade That Defined A Generation, an exhibit and program series that covers a lot of topics, many with Detroit themes, including:

Motown and Beyond: The Detroit Music Scene of the Sixties (Gary Graff)

The Motor City Music Explosion (John Sinclair)

Ashes to Hope: Overcoming the Detroit Riots (Vincent Duffey, Sarah Hulett, and Ike McKinnon)

Five Days in July 1967: A Journalist's Perspective (Dwayne X. Riley)

Grit, Noise and Revolution: The Birth of Detroit Rock 'n' Roll (David Carson)

Motor City Rock and Roll (Bob Harris)

The Birth of Focus: HOPE (Eleanor Josaitis)

Good turnout at today's kickoff program with Jack Lessenberry setting the stage. The exhibits are terrific...and the speakers to come are world class. This really is a don't miss event. Will try to post some photos of the exhibit tomorrow.

Thanks for the looksee of some of the displays. I'll probably run by there next weekend for John Sinclair's rap and poetry. They've assembled an excellent cast of speakers to flesh out that era in the Detroit area.
