SO I have decided to have my wedding and reception at the DYC. I have alot of out of town guest coming in and am wondering if there are any concerns I should have with people he navigating the island later in the day in the summer or any other issues anyone has had?

My wife and I had our wedding reception at the DYC over Memorial weekend a few years back. Everything worked out very well with both the DYC and Belle Isle. I was afraid there would be problems with too many people on the island.. but it was not an issue. The only problem was part of the island was shut down for a charity run/bike event.

Just make sure you provide maps or explain how to get to the DYC once you get on the island.

Good luck! The DYC was perfect!!!!

My wife and I had our wedding reception there last May. The place was simply fabulous. The staff was on the ball and easy to work with. Whatever minor issues arose were taken care of immediately. I highly recommend it as the place where you get the most bang for your buck.

We had a lot of people coming in from out of town and they didn't have a problem finding the place. We actually enjoyed our experience there so much we are looking at becoming members there.

My wife and I had a wonderful wedding at the DYC... We had 175 out of town guests that stayed at the Omni... Ceremony was held at Jefferson Ave. Presbyterian... Rehearsal Dinner at the Scarab Club.

It rocked.

^Scarab is a great idea... We were going to have a DYC wedding but are not so sure anymore--The DYC is a great place to have a wedding though.

My cousin got married there about 3-4 years ago, and it was awesome, everything went off without any problems.

I attended a wedding there last year early fall. fantastic service, food and drinks. Service staff was on the ball and attentive. The wedding coordinator provided by the DYC was an absolute fucking joy to work with. Beautiful space and scenery ... I suggest having your photog snag a few shots of y'all in front of the fountain and water front. This is the first wedding I attended where there was not one issue regarding the service staff or facility.

I second the importance of providing a clear map to the DYC. There were a few guests that wound up at the place near the entrance.

Ehemingway, do you mind if we ask roughly what the DYC charged?
I really wanted to have mine at the Casino on Belle Isle, but there were so many horror stories posted here and elsewhere about it, it's really sad. Conservatory would be nice, too.

It's a fantastic venue, truly unbeatable, but the service left something to be desired. A few guests reported being treated very rudely, and our wedding cake disappeared off the tables before I ever had a chance to take even one bite.

I worked there several years ago, before I got married. The place is a union shop, the kind that give unions a bad name, I'm afraid.

Still, overall it was worth it.

Rawk, we paid the DYC right around $11,000 for exactly 150 people, no kids. We got the all-inclusive package with the basic liquor option, basic hors deouvres, fish and chicken for dinner, and hired in a different dessert caterer. The sky's the limit as far as gourmet appetizers, top-shelf liquor, etc., but I seem to remember the all-inclusive pricing started at right around $100 per person.

Seriously, though, it was worth every penny, and was competitive with the other venues we looked at (Gem, Roostertail, etc.)

I haven't proposed yet, but I'll keep it in mind. We're both Detroiters, through and through, so we'd like to do something in the city. I don't care for the B-C's renovations (though am glad the building was saved). The Fort Shelby's Crystal Ballroom is nice but too small. Thanks for the tip!

If Isle is someplace you're interested in check out Dossin. I've heard they do weddings there but I do not know what (or how) the service is there. I am guessing you may have to have it catered by an outside vendor (perhaps the DYC).

We attended a wedding there last Memorial Day weekend. Beautiful facility, good food, A+ all the way.

We took the "short cut" through the center of the island rather than around the perimeter & just saw a bunch of folks having a good time. It took a little longer to get to DYC because of the holiday.

dont forget the boat shuttle...much easier for out of town guest to avoid driving on the island, and a great experience to ride across the river, arrive at the dock and walk up the grand stairs...perfect if its near sunset....
