Can anyone give me a lead on some storefront rental space? An out of state co-worker wants to set up a sports memorabilia shop for the Final 4.

He should just stay put, there's enough of a market for more of that sort of thing downtown between the Wings, Tigers, Lions, and the occasional tourist who might want a 'D' hat.

*edit
(I meant he should do it and then stay, instead of making it temporary. It was kind of vague)

That Building is along Broadway, between Greektown, Harmony Park, and the Ball Fields. It's also two blocks from the YMCA and Detroit Beer Company. Some apparel stores include T-shirt stores, accessory stores, and mostly nicer men's apparel. The street also has a coffee shop, several office and residential tenants (both are growing), and a party shop. There are cheaper spaces on the street, but that one is highly visible from the People Mover, and near Compuware and the Cadillac Center Station, off Gratiot and Broadway.

Merchant's Row on Lower Woodward Link: http://tinyurl.com/dhc9nq

Mostly upscale places, with the exception of the bail bonds. Studio Couture, Downtown's Tourist Center, several restaurants, a sports bar, a day spa, a hair accessory and wig store, a Nike apparel store, an athletic shoe store, a part time art gallery, a cell phone store, a book store, several theaters and nightclubs, and a woman's shoe store are on Lower Woodward Avenue. Merchant's Row is the nicest option, but there are many other options. I'd recommend walking the street, and taking down sign numbers, search craigslist and talking with shop owners and the DEGC.

I believe there is also space in the relatively new Compuware Building, as well as in Greektown (Look into Monroe Street for more information. Greektown has a business association).

Let us know how it goes. I love seeing new retail coming to Detroit. Hey, see if he has friends who want to set up shop - You can beat the location to all the culture and entertainment of our city.

What's wrong with selling out of a car trunk in an abandoned lot somewhere?
