I know that Bush is handing out pardons....are these for federal crimes only or could something like what Kilpatrick got be commuted as well...? Are there any legal eagles in the know? |

Why in the world would Bush want to pardon Kilpatrick of all people? |

Kwame's a Democrat. Not a chance. Besides, why would anyone regardless of party afilliation, want to pardon a criminal like him anyway? Now, if he were a CEO of some oil company, or had a name like Scooter, thats another story... (Message edited by detroitej72 on December 17, 2008) |

Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution gives the president "Power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." In short, no he can't. Kwame wasn't convicted of a federal crime, he was convicted under state laws for state crimes. |

This is just silly even if he could. There is not a chance in hell he'd do this. Who the hell is Kilpatrick to Bush? Nobody, that's who. |

He COULD, but he WOULDN"T. Why would he want to look soft on corruption, especially now? Obama could do so after he's inagurated. I don't think he would, though, for the same reason. Sidebar: If Bush comes through for the car companies, his reputation in Detroit should go way up, don't you think? Bush was in business, and I'm inclined to think he has more of a grasp of the situation than Congress does. (Message edited by eastsidedame on December 18, 2008) |

I seriously doubt it, at least he shouldn't. That's like thanking someone who burnt down your house for helping to clean it up. |
