Does anybody have any info or memories or better yet photos on this theater? The movie theater on Michigan Ave, not the old ballroom. The theater ran from 1930 to 1953. The building is still there, but is now annexed to a dry cleaner.... Just wondering if anyone out there had any info. (Message edited by 4oranges on November 16, 2008) |

I never knew it as a movie theater. I remember it as Graystone Hall, the hall that was rented for punk shows (in the early 1980s) and finally became a punk show venue (1985-1988). I spent the night in the basement next to the furnace once. And I still have some of the old folding wooden chairs from the place. |

You might be able to find information about the Graystone Ballroom on this link from the Detroit News Rearview mirror historical page site. http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.d ll/section?Category=METRO07&CF ID=12509606&CFTOKEN=50471701 (Message edited by Westsiiiide on November 17, 2008) |

Quote from Gistok Haven't found any photos, but just this useless reference.... http://cinematreasures.org/the ater/5833/ (Message edited by Gistok on November 17, 2008) Amen to that. cinema treasures is little more than a half-hearted data base full of dead links from a bunch of cheap queens who won't pay to keep their photobucket accounts going. Anything meaningful they have in this region is a link to waterwinterwonderland, which is a terrific site, jam packed with content and looking for more, easy to navigate. Cinema treasures uses the last known name for a theatre to identify it, so if your Greystone changed names for the last two years it was open you would have a hard time finding it there. |

I found out were it is.I,d never thought of the place as a Theatre, just the laundry where my "Gramps" went before he got tired of the riff raff "Hookers".Next time down the AVE i,ll check it out. |
