Ex-Freep writer focuses fresh attention on a continuing Ambassador Bridge safety concern today at his Joel on the Road blog. Excerpts:quote: Three hundred thousand gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel [are] stored under the elevated U.S. approach to the bridge, for sale at pumps outside Matty’s duty-free Ammex store. An explosion at the bridge could kill lots of people and cut truck movement between two countries. On the other hand, Matty makes a lot money selling gas. . . . Why does the city of Detroit, why does the county of Wayne, why does the state of Michigan, why does the federal government let Matty Moroun house a bomb under his bridge? |

How about the physics of this? Will Diesel fuel explode in underground tanks? I thought gas needed to be in aerosol form to "explode." I hate Matty as much as anybody, but I find the "bomb" scenario unlikely. Engineers? |

When mixed with ammonia nitrate diesel fuel is highly explosive. Even in a liquid un-atomized state. Remember Oklohoma City? |

It certainly seems that Moroun isn't held accountable by the local mainstream media. Takes a hard-nosed independent journalist such as Thurtell to ask the tough questions. He's beholden to no one. Moroun hasn't been interviewed in the local media since god knows when. Next time he is, how much you wanna bet it's nothin' but softballs. |

Nobody seems to be able to get past Dan Stamper. |
