Any suggestions? I am working at 211 West Fort Street...does anyone have an opinion about Flood's? Thank you in advance for your help! |

It depends on what you are looking for. The checker bar is a very popular after-work bar with the professionals downtown. They have GREAT homemade food and the ladies are always friendly. Floods seems to be better later in the evening, in my opinion. |

Flood's is in the beautiful old castiron facaded Detroit Cornice & Slate Building. It seems to draw a primarily 30+ yo professional black crowd. It has a long bar and lots of tables for groups. It's a place to see and be seen. Parking seems to have been complicated with the ongoing construction of the Greektown Casino. |

Flood's used to be the place to go to overhear shit you weren't supposed to know about. Backroom stuff, from the press, and from executives. Not sure if that's the case anymore. Checker is a good chill hangout. Lots of more old-school people used to hang out there and tell stories. |

Moz, you need to acquaint yourself with the Anchor Bar. It is within stumbling distance of your building. Part dive, part historical site, part restaurant and bar. Order their burger and you'll be pleased. http://anchorbardetroit.com/ Gotta second DetroitStar's suggestion on the Checker. Certainly a place where you'll be treated as family. Floods...maybe once a month, but kind of expensive to be a regular place. Always have found Flood's a place of high drama and the attitude of the place isn't to my liking. The staff has the "aren't you lucky I am here" kind of attitude. Another place is The Post Bar, just a block or two away from 211 Fort. Not a place you'd take your mom, but certainly a unique Detroit location.http://www.postbar.com/ |

Detroiter bar. A great mix of everyone. White, black, trendy, untrendy, old, young. The bartenders create a good atmosphere and strangers are always willing to talk there. Jukebox. I really like the joint. Prices tilt towards the higher end. Real good burgers and wings. I also second Forans Pub on woodward for better beer choices and excellent pub food. |

Try the Big City Bar & Grill on Washington Blvd and Michigan in the Holiday Inn. I have stopped there quite a few times and have enjoyed myself. |

I'll third Foran's. Went to Anchor Bar a couple winter blasts ago and got blasted so I believe it was a good time. Would like to go back there again soon. Have not been to Checkers but want to go and have heard many good things about the place from numerous people. Never been to Floods. The crowd always looked a little high and mighty for my tastes. I'm a big fan of the Detroiter Bar and their burger special! Jacoby's is a great place to go hang out and enjoy an always different crowd as well as a new beer; however they are a bit on the pricey side. It's a little further of a walk, but the Detroit Pub (formerly Steel) was rather inviting the one time I stumbled in there. The Old Shillelagh is hopping on the weekends, not sure about random week nights. If you're looking for a real entertaining place to spend a couple hours after work, there's always the Bouzouki... |

out of stupid curiosity, where is B2 and how does it compare to the original? I found a stack of free passes at the auto show on the restroom sink of all places last year. |

Oh, it's very nice. Very classy. A lot of love went into that place. It's on Griswold and John R. You can go hang out with a bunch of cool hipsters at cafe D'Mongos, then walk across the street and hang out with a bunch of cool hookers. |

It has been a lot of years since I worked downtown...is Galligan's still operating under that name? I can't remember if it was on Jefferson or Woodward. |

Don't know how it is after work, but we used to go to Borg's for lunch. Is it still there? As Borg's? That was one dark bar! I always wondered if it was so we couldn't see creepy crawlies. |

What sort of criteria are we looking for in an after work bar? We looking for cheap drinks? Good food? Hip crowd? Personally I've always been partial to Union Street. It's an old stand-by for a lot of us in Midtown. It's a little pricey but then I list good food first as my criteria and Union Street has always been good on that regard. The drinks are a little steep but then I'm not a heavy drinker so it doesn't sting my wallet too much. One other thing I've always liked about Union Street is that I can also have a conversation with the person across the table from me. Again, those are just a few of the things I've enjoyed in an after work bar. |

Is Bookies still around now that the Book Tower is vacant? I haven't visited the bar since the end of April. I heard they were looking for a new venue recently. |

Borg's is now called Greenwich Time. You can type Greenwich Time Detroit in your browser to catch up on the latest. By the way, if you remember Harry, he still is there and makes a "Great" spaghetti special for Wednesday's lunch crowd. I was there today and met some nice people at the bar. |
