I have a couple of friends (plus their small child) coming to Detroit this Sunday...

I know this has been done 1,000 times before but can some of you offer suggestions for an ideal day in the D...

I am always a fan of Belle Isle. Take a nice walk through the Conservatory... and who can resist the huge slide about 100 yards north.

African World Festival at Hart Plaza this weekend. It's pretty big and there are vendors and food from all over. And there is a children's pavillion.

Take the kid to storytime at Ladels.

The DIA is a lot more child-friendly now that it's brighter.

Don't forget Heidelberg. Kids usually get a kick out of that.

I don't think the small child would like the casino. Or the mall. The Diamond Jack is pretty kid-friendly, too.

^The adults could always go to the Casino at night when the children are sleep.

Also, I don't see why they wouldn't like walking around (or riding a stroller inside) a big mall.

How small of a child? Check out the Puppet Art Theater on the corner of Grand River and Library.

Great for adults too!

Best advice can only be given with child's age.

Most of these duplicate earlier suggestions.

It is going to be fairly hot Sunday--the Belle Isle water slide could be nice if the child is old enough. Beach is right there too, regardless of age.

Kids like the "Streets of old Detroit" at the historical museum (open 10-5 Sunday).

Riverwalk. Carousel if kid likes that sort of thing.

Science Center is fun. Art Institute is good depending upon age and inclinations of the kid.

Tigers are at home vs Baltimore. Might be tickets available.

You would have to anesthetize me to get me to the Dream Cruise, but lots of people including kids love it.
