• "Go Comedy!" Improv Theater is set to open this September on 9 mile east of Woodward.

Auditions were held last weekend.

• The B. Nektar Meadery is open east of Hilton on Jarvis St. They make Mead, yes Mead. Like knights drink.

• Maria's Front Room will be REOPENING under new management. Nami Sushi is taking over. It will be completely redesigned with Tuscan Decor. They intend to reopen the doors by Labor Day.

• The owners of WAB and Emory have hammers swinging at the site of their new Billiard Club. The club will be named (long time Ferndalers may get a chuckle) "The Loving Touch" Billiard Room. Decor is supposed to be similar to The Emory.

• Rosie O'Grady's is renovating the large Eyeglass Factory building on 9 Mile west of Woodward that has been empty for some time. They intend to move there and build what they say will be a "Vegas Casino" style patio, so big their entire current facility would fit on it. They will then turn the current O'Grady's into a new Mexican restaurant. Look for this project to be completed early in 2009.

Great news more places to eat. I hope the Mexican is more diverse with not just tacos.

Better watch out, Royal Oak: Ferndale may overtake your place as the region's largest, walkable, outdoor food court...

Good news, nonetheless - nice to see new businesses opening up in a quasi-urban setting.

Meow!
Makes one wonder what you would consider an "urban" setting?

Just a couple more things, work has finally started on the new facade for Sneakers. I'm sure many noticed it was torn down to studs for the past couple of months. Looks like they were waiting for work to start on the Billiard Hall's facade to start in order to build them simultaneously.

Also, Ferndale is the only Michigan city nominated for the 2008 National League of Cities Award of Excellence.

quote:

The Awards for Municipal Excellence identify and showcase outstanding city and town programs that improve the quality of life in America's communities.

Winners of this award exemplify excellence in city governance, best practices in municipal policy, and established model programs that improve the lives of their citizens.
