http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.d ll/article?AID=/20080625/OPINI ON03/806250377/1031 In this mostly pointless story, Rubin takes one man's complaint and writes about the possibility that Bank of America may have doctored a photo of Detroit for its advertisements. The man, from Farmington, swears that the CBD buildings seen to the right of the Ren Cen are not really in their right spot. He either doesn't understand perspective, or is just a westsider who doesn't know what the City looks like from the east side ;) |

We must ridicule him thoroughly.
quote:"They're doing urban renewal, better and faster than the mayor can," Levine said. As long as the bank is making improvements, "they should put some housing in there with people living and laughing." Haha (pointing and laughing and making an L on forehead with finger and thumb) |

Rubin was right about the Millender Center, but the point I think he was trying to make is many people may have run with what Fred Levine was saying. I don't think it was pointless, Rubin was just setting the record straight. |

Levin can't fathom an angle in which Comerica Tower and the rest are to the right of the Ren Cen... Except maybe in this picture I just happened to take last year.
Then he uses his supposed "discovery" as an opportunity to make snarky remarks about the city. HA-HA! |

Well, we all now know not to get photography done from the Ambassador Group. Don't have them photograph your family reunion on Belle Isle, they've never been there before. I wonder if he's ever been to the Ambassador Bridge before? |

To hell with BOA..Ask 'em how many Michigan jobs they've axed since they took over LaSalle. Sorry for unrelated comment that has nothing to do with the story. I'm still a little touchy on the subject of BOA. |

LOL...wow...just wow...I was pretty sure a picture can be taken from all angles of an object. Better known as 360 degrees. Or for more simple people, a circle. I was coming down Gratiot yesterday and Comerica Tower was IN FRONT of the RenCen...how could that be?? |

When did Skipper and Jodi start riding cruisers on Belle Isle? Fishtoes in saranwrap maybe, but two escapees from the Yacht Club, ...I don't think so. |

Oddly enough, Bank of America actually made such a mistake for real before. http://chicagoist.com/2007/11/ 29/bank_of_america.php |

Neal Rubin is a rube. If he had ever been to Belle Isle, he would know the ad is possible. |

It tells you a lot about this region when a newspaper columnist who should at least have some sense of the city he represents makes a stupid mistake like that. |

^ He's clearing things up and told both sides of the story. He said it appeared to be doctored, and it might confuse people who are used to seeing the skyline from Windsor, when in actuality BofA says it's just an obscure angle. Still, I get pissed when people claim photos shot at really good angles are fake. I got an unusual amount of span out of the blue on my flickr where comment from several different users (I'm thinking it was actually the same person since the accounts were all deleted) said that I had photoshopped in a bunch of buildings in an aerial Detroit photo I took. The only altering I actually did was a bit of light level adjusting. Yes, if only plunking extra buildings in a picture was that easy. http://farm2.static.flickr.com /1077/606128545_6bec8ce203_b.j pg |

^^^That's a really good pic. Sometimes I hate the traditional skyline from the Windsor side because it only shows like a quarter of the buildings. It also makes the RenCen look huge compared to the other buildings because of its distance from the main core. The comments that user made were crazy but many people never see the skyline from any other angle than the most common one. |

Wolverine, your photo has been the background on my computer for the last 6 months or so. Everyone always asks me what city it is, and when I point out that it's Detroit, they don't believe me at first. Great shot! |

I hear what you're saying Det... That's why when I saw this photo by fellow forumer Ryan Southen, I had to buy it for my wall. http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/ onblack.php?id=159029463&size= large Now THAT'S a skyline you don't usually see. And it just looks fantastic. |

Well, that's your typical dumb suburbanite. I wonder would he live and laugh in the Griswold if it were developed? Would Levine stay at the Greektown Hotel & Casino while recommending it to visitors if it were planned his way? If not, I suggest he keeps his 2 cents! LOL yeah Gannon. That's an I-Beam farm. I guess you didn't know where they come from! There are worries the recent die-offs of honeybees may mean a weak I-Beam crop next year. |

BTW, despite all the surface lots, downtown Detroit (especially between Randolph & Cass) is very dense for modern times. |

Wolverine-- That is a great photo of downtown (from a one-time professional photographer and maybe a photographer again, soon). It captures the intricate pattern created by the layout of our downtown streets in a fantastic way. Plus-- the texture of it all! I love it! |
