Its great that the players spend so much time around town sharing the cup with the fans.
I have yet to see myself, but soon enough.

It was at yesterday's Tiger game. Draper and Rafalski both threw out the first balls and had the cup with them at the pitcher's mound.
The crowd gave them several standing ovations. Each time they raised the cup. the fans went nuts.

A buddy of mine called me at 7 p.m. yesterday from Cheli's Chili Bar downtown to tell me the cup was there, so I ran down the street and sure enough, Kris Draper was passing it around the bar, letting people drink out of it. I couldn't get close enough to drink out of it, but before he walked it down to the other end of the bar he looked right at me and doused me in beer from the cup! I stood there completely drenched with a chill running down my spine. I'm never going to wash that shirt. What an experience!

I understand it was used in a porn movie as a sex prop before it went to Cheli's Chili. Did it have a funny taste?

The Cup was at Cheli's. I walked across the street when I heard. Most of the team was there. Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Hasek, Osgood, Lilja, Datsyuk, Draper, Drake, Howard, Filppula, Hudler, Kronwall, Ericsson, Chelios, Holmstrom, Rafalski, Samuelson, Franzen, and a few others I've forgotten. I took pictures. Posted a few. I'll post more later.

It was pretty cool. They went out back afterwards and say songs with everyone.

Bunch of the Wings were at dick o dows in birmingham on friday night around 130 am. A friend of mine drove about 5 wings back to chelli's house from the bar with the cup in the back of his range rover. Hudler, Zetterberg and others were in the car.

the Cup left Cheli's last night with Rafalski and headed to Foran's for about half an hour, where there were maybe ten people sitting around the bar. no mad rush, not mob. Rafalski was feeding everyone beer from the Cup and letting people pose for as many pictures as they wanted. that is kick ass.

LOL, I was just thinking about when the Cup is presented to the Wings, the guys have white gloves and handle it so carefully. Then they turn it over to the team....

Did Rafalski wear white gloves to pass out the beer?

Ya know Mama_jackson - the night they won the cup, that is the exact thing I said to my husband. Look how carefully that cup is attended to - the guys are wearing white gloves and handling it so carefully - Now that poor cup is going to be handled by all sorts of methods! :-)

ive heard the cup has been in all manner of goop and gunk and the cup itself was bent out of shape when it was DROPPED. so yeah, seeing the white gloves gives me a chuckle...

im not sure ill ever see it except at the hall of fame. i dont know anyone who would have it or where it might be soon enough to go see it. :-(

Im not a big sports fan but love the wings.

I was at the Rolling Stones concert hangin outside tryin to catch as much free music as I could. This was I believe right after the Wings won the cup last time. This dude comes running out of ford field in a Yzerman jersey screaming "yzerman just signed my jersey" I felt pretty good for that guy. What a great day for him.

I was at my buddies place downtown on Saturday when some drunkard walks by hollering about getting drenched in beer by kris draper @ cheli's. I sort of wrote him off but as it turns out I missed my chance to drink from the cup. I'll probably never get that chance again. The wings seem to be bringing the cup to the people more now than ever before. Dousing people with beer from it, letting fans touch, drink from pick up and even drop the cup I somehow don't believe this happens in every city.

Mdoyle, well, now we know how we'd treat each other out in public...I do like to hearing these stories-a classmate last year was telling me how her husband called her while hanging with a (gaggle?) of mighty buzzed Ducks over @ J.T. Schmid's, this gaudy sportsbar right across from The Pond in Anaheim where the fans grab a pint, or a pitcher, or 2-and they were shootin' the stuff; signing jerseys & talking on patron's cellphones to cousins back East & posing for pictures, in short; it's the type of camaderie with fans & each other that win championships

They just walked it by my desk here at work in Detroit. I know nothing about hockey and couldn't care less about it, to be honest, but they had a guy carrying it wearing white gloves. Struck me as funny. The cup has its own security team. Is this true in all cities or just in Detroit?

There is a man dedicated to the care and feeding of the cup. He is an NHL employee. He travels with it, everywhere it goes.

I don't know of any other similar trophy that is allowed out in the wild.

Tim and Steve, the owners of Forans, have been friends with Brian Rafalski since elementary school, so it meant a lot to him to be honored with a visit from Brian with the SC.

I was in front of Music Hall waiting for my daughter (who had just danced in a recital) when I got the call from Tim that the cup was on its way. It worked out perfect as I already had the kids with me. They both got pictures and autographs with BR and the SC. Me? I gotta a big chug of good beer from the SC, poured by Brian himself, all down the front of me. It was a blast. Just what the doctor ordered. Definitely one for the memory books and photo albums.

Ndavies, I hate to nitpick, but he's an employee of the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the NHL. The HHoF is not operated by the NHL.

Sorry, I just had to make the correction, though I know it is probably irrelevant.

Osgood and Lidstrom on Leno with the cup. Funny thing, they let a guy in the audience come on stage, he had a Gerard Gallant jersey on. Can't wait till the go on Letterman, maybe will see a Willy Huber jersey.

I hope their appearance on Letterman is better written and longer than Leno. I cant believe I stayed up late to watch Jay ask just 1 question and a goofy scripted song.

I've always liked Letterman anyway, and considering he is a big hockey fan, I would expect them to get more than 30 seconds.

Rhymeswithrawk, the Stanley Cup is the most coveted trophy in all of sports, of course it has it's own caretaker, actually I think three people are assigned to it. Surprised you don't know this working in Hockey Town and all.

"I hope their appearance on Letterman is better written and longer than Leno"

Who said being on Letterman was a given? I think the only reason they were on Leno was because the finals were on the same network. Letterman isn't.

Letterman has hosted Stanley Cup champions in the past, including Steve Yzerman in 2002. Considering history, I would expect to see someone on there soon. If the appearance with Leno had something to do with the finals being on NBC I think it would have been mentioned. But nowhere in the 1 minute of airtime last night did they reference that the games were on NBC.

Leno has had Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan on after Stanley Cup wins in the past. They had sit downs, and I remember Jay asking Shannie about his scars and missing teeth.

Jcole, scars? Leno does that obvious stuff all the time...it's like his ripping on Amtrak when it's neither funny or accurate. I cringed years ago when (L.A. Kings Capt) Rob Blake was on (short-lived TV version of ) The Stephanie Miller Show & she had him pull out his bridgework. He still did it, but it seems kinda one-note to me.

They did the same thing to Draper at the parade on Channel 4 the other day. They were asking him how many of his own teeth he still has. He said all of them, but it remains to be seen if he'll keep the three that got loosened this year.

Just wondering what it would be worth to scrappers, Jrvass. They don't post the weight. But lets see now; I figger' it weighs in at about 20 pounds or so. So if it was copper, that would be about 60 clams. For silver "alloy" about 420 bones. Thats a days worth of crack. If it is made of wood (I think it is, cuz it floats) it is only good for camp fire wood. Unless it's Ash. Then all bets are off.

If it floats, it's only because of the trapped air between the base and bottom of the original cup.

I think a good job would be to work at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and be one of the 2 "Keeper's of the Cup". You'd get to hang out with the winning team for a few weeks, and then spend the summer traveling with the cup and each player, coach, etc.

$420/day for crack? How, exactly, do you know this? Personal experience as a:

1. user
2. dealer

or a friend of one of the above?

BTW, my brother liked the old Pepsi wooden crate.
