I am looking to move back to Detroit for a new job, and I found a 3 bed, 2 bath loft in corktown totally new for 139,000....wondering if people here thought it would be worth the investment? Seems like a good area, I don't have kids, so it would basically just be me. |

Grinnell Place is a great development. The Mrs. and I really liked it when we were looking for places to live. Neighborhood is quite good, too. |

Sounds sweet. I think people realize, finally, how special Corktown is, and it can only get better. It's an exciting time to be a Detroiter. Enjoy your new home. |

Friends of mine have a loft there. It's a great space. It's definitely one of the nicer lofts I've been in. |

Just curious--why do you want a 3BR 2bath place with just you? Home office/lots of stuff? |

I didn't know that places were going for that cheap in Grinnell place. That building is beautiful. I'd pounce on that in a second. |

what happened to this place the first time around 7 years ago? my wife and i had a deposit down for a year, and ultimately they gave everyone their money back. would have been $179k for 2bed/1ba, if i recall, so sounds like quite a deal for you! |

7 years ago? You must be thinking of something else. This condo development was not marketed until Spring '05. |

A few years ago I took a pic of an old faded (ghost) sign for Grinnell's on Michigan near the Lodge. I was shocked to see the name still somewhere in the city. I took a pic and a few month later wanted to show the place to a friend and could not find it, maybe it was gone? Is this now Grinnell place? Why did they remove the old sign? It was not cool like the now restored Willys-Knight one near wayne State but it did bring back great memories from when Grinell's was in the Oakland Mall and in downtown Birmingham.. I do not remember the downtown store or maybe it closed when the suburban ones opened? |
