I see extensive work is well underway on the former Herman Gardens site at the corner of Tireman and the Southfield Freeway. Anyone have any information on this large scale redevelopment project, or any site plans? It's great to see redevelopment at work on this former desolate landscape, I just wish they had been able to save a few of the healthy older trees on the property, rather than clear cutting and leveling the entire plot. |

According to a Model D article back in January, construction was supposed to have finally started on the project April 1. Anyway, here was what I've been able to find concerning site plans and renderings. Unsurprisingly, the thing looks the same (in design) to much of the similarly named Woodbridge Estates, which I believe was designed by the same firm: Siteplan (notice large retention pond) Link Sector 1 Link Gardenview Duplex Link Gardenview 3-unit townhouse link Gardenview 4-unit structure link |

those renderings are produced by the same architect who did the majority of woodbridge estates. the conceptual site plan, however, was not. |

That's really cool, thanks! It looks like it will be a good project. They're even keeping some of the grid like street pattern in place, which will help it blend with the surrounding neighborhood, especially to the south. The drawings and renderings look good. Interesting to see how they plan to install old looking streetlights. Maybe they should just trade the city for all the old lights left along the Southfield service drive and the city could install some new lights along there that might work at night for a change.... then they can refurbish the old lights and put them in the 'hood. Anyhow, thanks for those links. Good to see this project moving along! |

For such a large complex, the retail portion seems to be quite limited. For those living on the east end of the development, especially those on the southeast end, it's going to be a good walk to get to the retail section. |

That's a problem with a lot of new urban infill projects of this size. Many of them make it so that you still have to get in your car for shopping/entertainment, etc...It's very suburban functioning in that way. |
