I have jury duty next month and wondered if any of you have had the pleasure of being on a jury downtown lately.
They suggest parking at Joe Louis or at the Ford Aud. parking lot. Of course they won't pay for your parking.
What kind of cases do they have there?
My work will pay for my service so I hope to get on a long trail.
Any suggestions for lunch around there?

It depend if you have to report to the 3rd Circuit at the Coleman A Young Building or the 3rd Circuit on St. Antoine. The St Antoine location is all criminal trials and the CAYMC court is civil and probate cases. Park on the Cobo Roof.

If your at the St. Antoine's I would just park in the new Greektown casino structure and make a day of being downtown in Greektown then go for a nice lunch and play the slots when you get a break! ;)

Unfortunately, I'll be going to the old city-county building for jury duty. Someone suggested I bring a lunch because the prices are outrageous.

Take the Skywalk to the new Rice Bowl in the Millender Center or the Food Court in the bottom level of the Ren Cen. They have a McD. B.K., a pizza place, Subway, Arby's & some other ones. Price not too high. Only Burger King take coupons and has a some what dollar menu.

I did jury duty at the 3rd Circuit a month ago. Work paid for me too. I parked in the Ford underground and paid $10 for the whole day. I didn't think that was too outrageous, especially since it was so convenient to the City County Bldg. Be sure to not bring your cell phone or any other electronic devices with you since they're really strict on that for jurors (in addition to the usual stuff you're not supposed to bring these days to the airport and elsewhere).

I ate at the RenCen food court for lunch. A nice selection of chains (as stated above) as well as some great independent places too: an Italian? deli/fast casual, a great Thai place, etc. All are very reasonably priced (you'll spend less that $7). You can take a skyway from the City County to the Millender to the RenCen to get there (you'll need to walk outside from the Millender to City County on the way back due to security at City County). You can also catch the People Mover at the Millender and RenCen if you want to go elsewhere.

The court has a refrigerator in the room, but with so many people there for jury duty I'd just play it safe and convenient and plan to go out for lunch.

Park for free in Greektown Casino's structure (validate). Walk over. Have a blast on jury duty ;)
