How can you underestimate the impact professional sports has on our community? It's where a huge majority of our own entertainment dollars go, as well as where we receive a large portion of our tourism dollars. Opening a bar without banking on sports fans coming to your place to watch a game would be a death sentence. |

Cliff Bells is one block from Comerica Park, discourages Tiger fans from hanging out after games and won't install TVs, radios, or anything promoting sports. They're doing really well; I've never heard a complaint. |

That is an exception that caters to a specific niche. Sports is not necessary for all but for places without a specific identify it certainly helps. |
