Well the casino is still under lots of construction, and that will continue for many months. So don't expect to see the finished product. As to the hotel, I don't know.

Interestingly enough they are building an actual 1,800 seat theatre with sloped floor and a loge or balcony.

Lots of work still to be done on MotorCity until they are finally finished.

Thanks Gistok, I never been there but I don't really care for gambling, I was just wondering about the hotel experience and Iridescence.

The casino is pretty lame compared to the MGM Grand. Cheesy decor, low ceilings, boring bars. I hear the hotel rooms are great, though.

Brian, they are only about 1/2 done with the casino renovations. Once the renovated portions are finished, they will be opened, and many of the existing casino areas will be closed for remodeling.

So it's still too early to compare it to MGM. All the hype about the "new" MotorCity Casino in November was mainly for the Hotel.

They are also still working on the building housing the buffet and restaurants (the ones not in the Hotel), as well as the convention space.

Besides the Hotel, the rest of the project, the Casino, Theatre, Restaurants and Convention space all are still only 1/2 done.

Can't rate the Hotel which looks damn cool with the outside animated lighting. BUT the casino which is under renovation still is the PITS! I posted about it a while back and compared it to Biff's in the movie Back to the Future. Low ceilings, smokey, crowded, etc. I was comparing it to MGM which is VERY nice so maybe my comparison comes a bit early. The parking garage will remind you of Joe Louis or Cobo...Dirty and dark.

I really didn't care for it. My wife and I went there with the intent of spending the evening gambling and hanging out. We have been to MGM before, and after staying about an hour at Motor City Casino, we left for MGM. I have never stayed at the hotel, can't really speak to that. I was impressed with the "Wow" factor of MGM. The most like Vegas this state has seen.

A common denominator from visitors is that once they are at the Motor City or MGM there is no where to go and they do not feel safe walking.. Actually a fair observation... That is why I think Greektown and the new hotel has it right . There is a ton of things to do for visitors once they walk away from the Casino

I believe both MGM and Motor City have complimentary shuttles to anywhere downtown. This is second hand info, so I might be wrong.

Just a note on the "cool animated" lighting. I see it everyday and I think it looks cheesy and dated. Already. Hopefully it will improve when they finish but it all just seems cheap.

MotorCity Hotel is eh. The flat screen tv with bendable neck is cool, you can sit anywhere in your room and have the tv face you. The bedding is a billion thread count. interior room carpet is soft. room service is crazy expensive, i think a domestic beer went for 8 or 10 dollars. the bathroom rocks. The tub is about 2 feet deep. the water outlets are neato, and they give you nice fancy bath products to play with. you also have a stand alone shower.

That's it for the nice things. Something is very structurally wrong with the place. The vents carry sound from other rooms, the walls are thin and there's a gap under the door. You have to not mind noise. Also, the hallway carpet was already stained all over, and the place just opened. It looks and feels more like a place to have a semi-raucous party than any sort of nice hotel. Two security guards guarding the elevators - have to show key to enter room area. A little foreboding. Fun night overall though. Just not fancy. And no pool.

Does anyone know if they plan to sequence the exterior light shows between the different buildings? It REALLY bugs me that they do not match.

I agree with Enduro, I think the exterior light shows are awful. They look like something that would have been a cool idea in 1985.

Detroitstar... it bothers me too that the light schemes don't match between buildings

Well my trip there was great, no real complaints at all. Iridescence was great, good food, good service. My only complaint there was that I had to wait for about 20 minutes after making reservations there.

Hotel was great, nice spacious room, very comfortable bedding. Ordered room service around 2am in the morning, got the food within 20 minutes, nice and hot. Only complaint there is that it is easy to hear someone coming down the hallway, I don't know if I had any neighbors so I don't know how the walls were.

Casino space was good, not as smoking than I would have thought. New space looks good. Looks like additions to the casino are coming along one by one.

Piece by piece, new MotorCity takes shape
