So this is the plan tomorrow, how's it sound, any suggestions?
Park at greektown casino parking garage(it's free, i think), eat at pizza papalis, take the people mover over to the Joe louis arena for the Foo fighters concert.

IMO Pizza Papalis isn't that great. Eat @ Greektown or get a coney @ Lafayette. Have fun @ the concert!

That always works fine, it's one of the few good ways to use the DPM.

Pizza Papalis is outstanding.

Street parking is free on Sunday. I have a tolerance for walking but normally if you get down to the Brush/Congress, or Larned/Randolph St. area you can find parking easily and leave it there for free. I'd do it as long as I don't have a fancy car. Hey maybe you'll luck out and find a closer spot on Macomb St. or something.

Wow, you're like the only person I know of that doesn't think PizzaPapalis is that good.

Personally, I think Lafayette Coney Island is overrated.

BTW, sounds like a winner to me Hockey_guy. Welcome back to the city of Detroit. :-)

Mackinaw basically gives you better recommendations.

I think PP is ok, but I would park at a casino and walk or use the People Mover

Everybody uses National Chili!! If you want, get some lamb & rice at New Hellas, or fried calamari, or a Greek salad. Go Greek (when in Rome).

Are you serious? The last time I had PP I nearly threw up. There is way too much meat, the sauce is nasty. Coneys on the other hand are pretty hard to screw up.

So how often do you come downtown, Hockey-guy, like once a decade? What distant suburb are you from that you need advice from locals to find out about parking and the most beaten path tourist eateries around here.

I come down a few times a year. I don't live in the suburbs, I live 120 miles north, in Midland. I'm 22 and just started going to Detroit with friends when I was 20 for concerts, sports, and have always enjoyed my time in the city. I just wanted to see other peoples opinions, since I've never used the greektown parking, and have never been to Pizza papalis......

Ok, so if you do go to the coney island shrine, as recommended, learn how to give an order.
Those Yeminis in The Lafayette wanna hear it right:

"Gimme two on one, one loose, lite onions, Chips, no fries, Vernors, no Pepsi, lite mustard on the dog, and a pieca-banana-creama pize."

A nice-a tip is important to the help, and then use the bathroom, also on the National Register of Historic Places.

Nice to see Midland coming to Detroit. Welcome. We love Alden B. Dow around here. We describe Detroit weather like this: "Colder than a Midland, Michigan's well digger's ass!" Enjoy Detroit and say nice things when you get home.
Be sure to Fight Foo back up there.

jjaba, since the 1940s.

Hockey_guy, I hope the whole affair goes swimmingly.
Please try to overlook Ghetto_butterfly's inappropriate, undeserved, and ass-nasty remark.

And don't forget, per Thegryphon's review, to tell the folks at PP to go easy with the meat on your pizza, so you can take in the Dang!-Now-We've-Heard-Everythi ng look you get in reaction.

Keep an eye on your watch. If you go to PP, a deep dish takes 45 minutes. Wouldn't want you to miss any of the game!

May I offer another suggestion? Detroit Beer Co. on Broadway is a good pre-game choice. Parking on the street is free on weekends if available. If the street is full, the Opera House garage is only $5. People Mover station located next to the YMCA. DBC eliminated their shuttle so tell the host/hostess that you are going to the game. They will give everyone in your party two tokens. (At least they did last month when I was there!)

sounds like you have a great plan, I'd stick with it. You can't beat free, safe parking after validation, and Pizza Papalis is SO good. Yum
