Hey everyone,
I'm recently engaged and my fiance and I are looking forward to getting married in the city where we met and fell in love. Nothing says romance like Detroit, right?

Ideally we would love to get married at the Belle Isle Conservatory and hold the reception at the Casino. Has anyone had any experience with holding events at the Casino?

Any other suggestions for a interesting venue that won't break the bank?

This sounds so romantic! Welcome to the Forum Alikat101! I wish the DIA would allow weddings in the Great Hall; its so pretty in there now, with the glittery things hanging from the ceiling. I myself had my wedding reception at Alvin's Finer Delicatessen and Twilight Bar in 1987...its not available at the moment, but it was a lot of fun, and right in the Corridor neighborhood that I 'grew up in' as a baby artist.

I am sure the fellow Forumers will come up with some great suggestions for you!

i went to a wedding in the BI conservatory garden this past summer which was very nice-- and then the reception was at the saarinen skating pavilion at belle isle. the pavilion is awesome-- but would only work if you had a group of <100 guests. congratulations!

I proposed to my wife at the DIA, in Knight Hall. We had our engagement pictures taken on Belle Isle and our wedding was held in Christ Church on Jefferson, 2 blocks east of the Ren Cen. It was awesome. After the ceremony we had the limobus take us to downtwon detroit and we took pictures at the Fox, Comerica Park, Old Shilleghleh, and others.

My wife used theknot.com to get our photographers and florists and stuff.

Wow! Love this forum! Thanks for all the great info.

I checked out the older threads too...a wealth of information on the Paris of the Midwest!

Any body have any experiences at the Colony Club? I've heard it mentioned as an alternate to the Casino.

Leoqueen I agree...I would love to get married in the Great Hall at the DIA!

Mountainman...Congrats! Where are you guys getting hitched?

Wow. I'm surprised the BI Casino is that expensive. But if you want it done in Albert Kahn style ya gotta pay Albert Kahn prices, I 'spose. :-)

Belle Isle Casino...not a Kahn.

Yes, many references cite is as a Kahn. But according to the AIA Detroit book, the Casino was designed by Van Leyen and Schilling in 1907.

BI casino expensive? not really; that's probably one of the cheapest that you'll find in the city.

alikat; i have not been to an event in the colony club, but i have been in the space: it's quite impressive. i also am familiar with the management and they are extremely competant (sounds like it should be a given, but it's not. be wary of this when you start looking at places and talking to their managers; it'll save a lot of stress in the end).
