And if I eat any meat at all, I prefer free-range, hormone-free chicken and the like.

The few local restaurants that come to mind are Starving Artist in Ferndale, Inn Season in Royal Oak, the Golden Gate Cafe in Detroit, and well, not much else.

Anybody have any other recommendations for metro Detroit? (And I don't mean Ann Arbor.) Seems like the pickins around here are much too slim.

Enlighten me, folks.
Thanks.

Om cafe in ferndale is organic, some items at Hudsons (Macy's) are organic. Aj's Cafe in Ferndale also has some organic stuff.

You can come on over to my backyard and eat what my gross free ranging dog eats, that’s organic!

The Inn Season in Royal Oak (on 4th Street, I believe) is always excellent.

I think the Rattlesnake Club actually has a lot of organic and free range items, if it's in your price range. Jimmy Schmidt has always had a lot of menu items featuring locally sourced and in season food.

I like Jimmy Schmidt, but boy, the Rattlesnake décor? Man ... they're stuck in the '80s big time.

http://myspace.com/firstcupcof fee Try "First Cup" on Inkster just south of 5 Mile in Redford. Organic coffee, smoothies,organic/natural ingredients used in their limited selection of tasty soups/salads/wraps/baked goods...coffee-house style, VERY friendly and casual, recent Friday visit: supposed to close at 8pm, 20-some people listening to 'open-mike' folk guitarist, elderly blind and wheelchaired woman with 2 friends enter...she asks if she can play along, friend goes and gets her ACCORDIAN from the car, she procedes to play Blueberry Hill and other bluesy songs...left at 9 and the place still open. Highly recommended.
