John McCain is attacking Mitt Romney with some out-of-context or misleading statements on radio and the Internet:

A radio ad running in Florida accuses Romney of proposing $20 billion to Detroit "to bail out the auto industry." Romney actually proposed a $16 billion increase in federal research into "energy research, fuel technology, materials science, and automotive technology."

Politicians distorting the truth or making assumptions to further their agenda. Say it ain't so.

just caught my attention since now two (McCain & Obama) of the four primary candidates have made a point of making anti-Detroit comments when speaking in other parts of the country

Do they think we don't hear them?

The bigger question is 'do they care'. People seem to believe that Michigan is more important than it really is in deciding a President. The simple fact of the matter is that the vast majority of the country don't care about Michigan/Ohio struggles. Catering to 2 states would very likely hurt them in the other 48.

People need to realize that Michigan is on the fast track to being irrelevany. The politicans have figured it out.

The Republicans could care less about Michigan. This state is firmly in the Democrat plantation. So what if the Democrat party took away the delegates, and the State will have no imput at the convention. The only reason that Romney even bothered to mention the auto industry was because of his father. To the rest of the country, Michigan is just a football team.

There are only seven states that have more electoral votes than Michigan.

There will still be electoral votes up for grabs.

Don't be too surprised to see McCain eat an industrial sized helping of crow, then flip-flop, once this is made widely known.

lilpup - I don't look at it as electoral vote sbut messages on a grand scale. Appeasing Michigan may get someone more votes in Michigan but I suspect with the exception of Ohio and 1-2 other states andything said about helping Michigan/domestic autos will hurt candidates in almost all other states.

Risk management. The message Michigan wants to hear is exactly what much of America doesn't want to hear in my opinion.
