It's not going to open until its "PREMIER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY" investors come to put some capital in that structure.

Aren't employees from Ilitch Holdings supposed to move in there?

Ha! Ilitch hinted he was going to turn the Detroiter, Blenheim and Varney Buildings into housing for Little Caesar's employees who had expressed an interest in living downtown -- in 1988! Since then he demolished the Varney.

Seriously, I thought the Detroit Life was going to house employees because the Fox was filled to capacity. Not housing, offices

The plan was for Illitch to move offices in and rent out the retail space as well as a couple of floors.

The demo is probably completed or close to, but I can't say how far the new construction has come.

Interesting floorplans on that Web site. Looks like some drunk guy at Hockeytown got a hold of a pen and a bar napkin.

If it is the same place I remember, in the first photo the two-story building across the street from the Detroit Life with the "Cadillac Restaurant" was around until the late '80s. Back then I always thought it would make a good billiard hall. Funny to see that is just what it was at one time.

Bobj,

I was just referring to what Ilitch said 20 years ago. It was the beginning his pattern of acquiring buildings and then doing nothing with them.

Decent location to have an office.
During renovation, I hope they did a good job cleaning out the asbestos and properly disposing of it.

Dnvn,
The GAR was supposed to house Olympia Development offices, Illitch's development arm. How many employees can he spread-out (GAR, Life, & the Fox)???

Exactly. They don't seem to be in much of a hurry to add additional office space.

Since the Fox Theatre, what other buildings has Ilitch rehabed?

I just realized the other day when I walked by, that I had been confusing the Detroit Life Building with the Michigan Mutual Building (next to Fyfe's)... does anyone know the status of this building? I used to use the parking facility here and there - but otherwise the building appeared vacant. (Sorry to threadjack.)
