Excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know what is going on with this building? We had our high school graduation there and I haven't heard anything about it's usage in a while. Are there plans to do something with it? Inquiring minds would like to know! |

Nothing is going on. It is an abandoned blight in the middle of one of downtown's most prominent sight lines. The Mayor's grand riverfront plan includes the much-needed destruction of the eyesore |

Can't give an exact date, but roughly 1989-90. That was when the DSO moved to Orchestra Hall while it was still being restored. There may have been some other functions (graduations?) after that date, but I don't think for very long. So it's been out of commission for roughly 17 years. |

Forgot to mention... that building has been slated for demolition... IF the city gets the money to raze the Chene Park Amphitheatre, and replace it with one on the Ford Auditorium site. |

"IF the city gets the money to raze the Chene Park Amphitheatre" What is wrong with Chene park? Sure it could use some facelifts, but why does it need to be removed if an amphitheatre is built elsewhere in the city? |

The RiverWalk is connected to Hart Plaza. Ford Auditorium will probably get demolished to make way for a "Riverwalk Ampitheater". Chene Park is great, but it could use the centralization of the Ford Site. The patrons of the concert hall will be able to utilize the RiverWalk, Hart Plaza, RenCen, plenty of parking options, the people mover need i say more? |

CP, it's a great place, but that location would be better suited for a mixed use/condo development. A similar large ampitheatre downtown would be a great venue with a dramatic backdrop. Detroit needs to work on getting even more major music festivals to bring in outsiders (i.e. lallapalooza.) |

The riverwalk has been built to the edge of chene park. Tear dat shit down, open up the river to the people. As soon as the economy recovers just a lil, developement will jump start the entire riverfront district. We will one day have all our wonderful dots connected. |
