With another year about to wrap up, what are your top three events that happenned in 2007 in Detroit?

They could be a restaurant/bar opening, concert or sporting event, festival, parade, volunteering for a weekend, discovering a new hidden gem, or something personal within the city, etc.

So what are your top three?

1. Riverdays 2007, showing off the new riverfront.

2. Bob Seger rocking out Cobo Hall one last time, what better night to host it than St. Patrick's Day!

3. Watching before my eyes the revitalization of the whole City of Detroit. From Corktown, to the Central Business District, to Mexicantown all the way up to East English village. I have nothing but great memories from all year long. And I only hope they continue at the same pace going into 2008! Sorry jjaba, and all you west side folks. Maybe in the new year I can venture past Woodward Avenue heading west and catch that Dexter bus sometime! haha

1. Hamtramck Blowout celebrating ten years.

2. CityFest 2007. Weird Al was awesome.

3. Seeing The Muggs on national television (terrible show though, "Next Great American Band") was pretty exciting. It didn't happen in Detroit, but it happened TO Detroit.

Thanks! I was here along time ago, and now I'm back :-)

Oh yeah, I agree, the opening of the MGM may have been the MOST exciting thing in Detroit this year. I can't believe I forgot about that.

This was one of those banner years for Detroit... Detroit seems to be string together a lot of banner years lately.

Too early for year-end reviews. Can I get through Christmas first?

It was a good year for downtown and very impressive considering the economy but not for the city overall - again due to the economy

1. Renovations to the Fort-Shelby and the Book Cadillac are a biggie on my list. Two beautiful buildings are brought back from the dead instead of being razed for another parking lot.
2. Does it have to be positive news? I'd also rank the police whistleblower suit against King Kwame up there too. Actually, there is a positive side to that one, in that the uproar was much louder and angrier than you would've expected - meaning people might finally be fed up with politics as usual. Even Kwame seemed blindsided that he couldn't charm his way out of it.
3. The riverfront is finally walkable and appreciated, after all these years of being treated as throwaway land. Yes!
