I really want to rent out my condo in Brush Park for the Final Four to the media. Anybody know how to go about looking into this? Any idea on how much I could get for a week?

I remember seeing some web sites set up specifically for this around the Super Bowl. I know people who rented out their places in Ann Arbor to who were in town for it. You could also put something up on craigs list about it.

For the super bowl the media was setup at the Rencen. A smart move by Penske. Im not sure if the plan is the same for the final 4.
I think your best bet would be to wait until the final 4 is decided then advertise in the area of the teams coming.

I suspect that the casinos will push hard to get their fair share of the media.

Well, all the bars and restaurants and public places will have to be replaced with futuristic TV's.

the 'problem' with the Final Four is except for the coaches (who have their convention, I believe, in conjunction with the Final Four) there is little reason for most to get into town TOO early.

The number of tickets distributed to the 4 participants is not great.

I tried to get tixs when George Mason made the final four ('06). I would have come to Indy on Friday and left after Mason lost.

Indy wouldn't have gotten rich off of me...

Slightly more than your typical weekend of three college basketball games--certainly not enough to justify all sorts of new permanent investment.

Of course, I have no doubt in my mind the City of Detroit will feel compelled to demolish another historic building or two in order to provide more parking.

im thinking it will be a great excuse to do some small scale developpment to our lack of retail. Old storefronts will see new life.

Detroit is the eating-est city in the world, so bring the food -n- booze joints. fill downtown with ribs, pasta, sushi, coneys, flaming cheese, vodka, merlot, hennessy.

Agree.

Detroit will gain more in PR then in actual visitor dollars.

Count on the visitors being in town Friday through Monday.

Hotels should do very good business.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Greektown H-C do very well. After all what else is there to do on that Sunday????

I believe there is probably open practices on say Friday.

"I think your best bet would be to wait until the final 4 is decided then advertise in the area of the teams coming."

Not necessarily. I don't think that the world will even know what teams are going to be in the final four until maybe just a few days before the event. For example, people that buy tickets to the final four games will be buying them like a year ahead and could prob. care less what team they go and see at the event.

perception will continue to improve because of such event.

Downtown, by March 2009 will have a better flow of normality. more retail, more restaurants, more convienience stores.

Your right Charlottepaul, some people will buy in advance. The difference is on Sunday, the weekend before, all 4 teams will be decided. Each team is allowed Some number of tickets for students and alumni. These are the people who will be scrambling for rooms, and be willing to pay more due to last minute planning.

Having been to 3 of MSU's 4 Final fours in the last 8 seasons, I think some of your are underestimating the impact of this event. Those that come for "all the events" will likely arrive Thursday night. In St Louis in 2005, they said that 85% of the hotels were full Thursday. That doesnt sound like much, but that is huge.

Also, with the championship game being on a monday late at night, the majority of people staying the weekend will not leave until tuesday. The monday of the championship is the most exciting. In 2000 in Indianapolis, the streets hosting the festival were full by 10am and the bars were loaded by noon.

Dont forget that even though some people leave when their team loses on Saturday, that many people come in to see their team in the championship. There are also several thousand people that will follow their team to the city and participate in all the events, but not go to the games.

The "loft rental" market for this event will be slim to none. The crowd/media will be no where near what was here for the SB. Also, there will be about 1000 more hotel rooms downtown than there were in 2005. I wouldn't bank on hitting it big Mr. Remix. Old storefronts will see new life? How so?

Nobody expects their team to lose, so people buy the cheap nonrefundable plane tickets and they're in town all weekend no matter what. This is from direct personal experience.

Nobody is going to create new retail stores or restaurants for a one-shot weekend-long event. However, this is one more event adding to the downtown vibe. By itself, it's small; as part of a trend, it's great.

Why wait until 2009? There will be the same amount of games this year in March 2008 with the Regionals. With 2 Games on Friday and 1 Game on Sunday. Most schools that make it this far in the NCAA tournament, travel very well to support their school/teams. By no means will this compare to the SuperBowl hype, but I'm sure that downtown bars/restaurants will cater to the crowds and do very well on this weekend. As far as the Final Four in 2009, there will be more media then 2008. You might get a few extra fans that will come to the city to party, but nothing like the SuperBowl with a weeks of parties and events leading up to the big game. All in all both of these basketball weekends should be a goodtime in the city.

I just can't wait to stand outside of the gates Saturday night and buy tickets for Monday's game from fans of the losing teams.

I'm expecting MSU, Louisville, Duke, and Georgetown to be there.

I am convinced that for the last four years, Tom Izzo has been recruiting specifically to win a title in his back yard in 2009. The names on next years squad are downright scary...

Morgan, Suton, Ibok, Grey, Walton, Dahlman, Herzog, Lucious, Roe, Green, lucas, Summers, Allen

SCARY!

After the SB didn't the media rave about how much better the D's SB was in comparison to Miami? I remember how Miami already had a SB set up for the future. Does Detroit have anything lined up? IMO something else to look forward to.

We only got the Super Bowl because of Ford. It had nothing to do with a new stadium.

Rax, you are telling me that we would have had the super bowl in 2006 if it were held at the silverdome? It had everything to do with Mr Ford's investment in a new facility and the upgrade that brings to he NFL.

I agree. After the debacle of SB XVI in Pontiac, they would have never given Detroit another SB without a new stadium. Point taken. Detroit is the only cold weather city to ever host the SB other than Minnesota I believe. Why is that? Other cold weather cities with domes like St. Louis and Seattle (when they had the Kingdome) haven't gotten the chance. Can you imagine if functioning cities like Chicago, NY, etc had domed stadiums? Detroit would be on the bottom of that pile, new stadium and all.
