Wings sign multiyear deal with Datsyuk By HELENE ST. JAMES FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER The Red Wings have signed forward Pavel Datsyuk to a multi-year deal. As the Free Press reported last week, general manager Ken Holland resumed negotiations with Datsyuk’s agent, Gary Greenstin, this week when Greenstin returned from Russia. Although he has a history of subpar playoff performances, the Wings view him — along Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall — as cornerstones for the future of the team. The Red Wings called a news conference at 1 p.m. today at Joe Louis Arena, to announce they have signed Datsyuk, 28, to a seven-year deal. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20070406/SPO RTS05/70406018 |

Last Sunday Brett Hull, while doing color commentary on a Nationally televised game, said Datsyuk was leaving Detroit when he became a free agent. |

I heard that too, Hull said Datsyuk wanted to play with Alexander Ovechkin. I guess we will have to bring Ovechkin here! |

Way to be the crack reporter on that one Hully! Supposedly he and Datsyuk just passed in the JLA tunnels and said hi but there wasn't even any hint or discussion of him leaving. Gotta love those Brett Hull sources! |
