I am very glad to see this, he is a leftie, has a good on base percentage, and fits well with the team. |

Re-signed! Phew, I know this is nit picky but I thought by the title of this thread, it suggested Sean Casey quit! (Message edited by smogboy on November 16, 2006) |

Chris Shelton will learn a lot playing alongside Sean Casey. Casey is going to be the strength from the left side and Shelton I can see going into the game to be power from the right side. Both seem defensively fine, but Casey's a veteran and Shelton's still a bit wet behind the ears a bit and could probably use a bit more seasoning. Either way, having Casey back is a good thing- not just for the team but for morale purposes too. He always seemed like an upstanding guy in the dugout and always cordial during interviews. |

Not for what Jaime Walker was wanting money wise! Thanks Jaime, but that's big time cash AND commitment that we can also spend in getting another free agent or developing some of our emerging talent. |

I liked Walker; he was, more often than not, dependable enough in his limited role, and I am glad to see him finally getting a major payday, but it is O.K. with me if we put that money toward other needs. That lefty "specialist" role is important, but it IS limited, and you can't write big checks for everydamnbody. Still, I figure that there will be situations wherein I will find myself wishing that we could have him back for just five minutes... Factadamadda is, over these last few years, he is the one guy who has performed his job at a consistently high level, no matter what else was going on. |

How did this turn into a Jaime Walker discussion? Egads, we've strayed! May Sean Casey forgive us. |

I was responding to Steelworker's post. In lieu of a major upgrade at 1B, which was unlikely, I'm glad to have Casey back. If you look at our starting lineup now, it is impressive how many guys we have who possess career BA's of .300 or, as with Sheffield, close enough to be rounded up to .300. I'm always quick to say that there are many stats more important than BA, but hell, it's still a good thing. |

Genesyxx fooled jjaba also. Big difference between resigned and re-signed. The Tigers made the World Series. jjaba would think the managers wouldn't be in a hurry to shitcan anybody. Sean Casey is one of the players who came up big for the Tigers in the run for a pennant. jjaba yearns for the days when a team is honored for their success and not nitpicked for another dollar. jjaba, on the Trumbull streetcar to a ballgame. |
