I need a place in Metro-Detroit to throw a holiday party for 50 or so people. We're located in Livonia but we're open to anything in the general area.

We're looking for something that has multiple activities (i.e. not just drinking and eating). Our budget is also pretty tight, so if we could do it on the cheap, that would be great.

I figure places downtown would be cheaper than places in the burbs, I just don't know where to start.

Any suggestions?

Are you in TradeFirst? Perhaps you can get a discount through Trade dollars.

You could do a meal at the Majestic followed by bowling at the Garden Bowl. I've also been to a few Christmas parties at the Casinos. I'll warn you that it can get pretty expensive to get a private room. My wife's company had a party at the Hard Rock followed by skating across the street.

It's pretty hard to come up with an activity (other than just eating and drinking).

Majestic or Union Street followed by Garden Bowl is a great idea. Be sure to call the Garden Bowl, they can set you up with a package deal for the bowling and refreshments that may save you money.

Something at the Garden Bowl complex if your group is not looking for anything fancy. Options for activities there but certainly not a typical environment.

Something at a restaurant around CM followed by other activities? While not a huge fan of Hard Rock they have the space that looks into the Compuware atrium. If it is a more adventurous crowd you could have dinner and a few drinks there then go skating at CM. Obviously not a typical event for X-mas party.

Dinner at a place in Greektown followed by some entertainment there or gambling (of course that doesn't fall in line with the cheap idea)

What are the dates? I can check into any other events going on that may be incorporated into your party.

What is the crowd like?

There is always feather bowling at Cadieux Cafe and bocce at Buddys (but I think their courts are outside).

Dinner at Slows followed by drinks at the Nancy Whiskey if there is an open mic night there.

Dinner and dancing at Los Galanes or El Comal (they have a large space in the back and have a band/dancing) on weekends. Not X-massy and could cause some embarrasment for a work party.

Dinner in midtown followed by a play at Hillberry since that is pretty cheap.

Jt1, we would like to hold it on December 21st if possible. The crowd will be mostly mid-20s to mid-30s and usually down for anything.

How about dinner at the Century Grille followed by a show at the Gem Theatre?

How about a play at the Hilberry and dinner at Mario's. Did it before, went well.

Unless you want something more active

Biloxi Blues is playing at the hillberry. I haven't seen it there yet but the Hillberry is great as is Biloxi Blues.

I would recommend Twingos (reserve the upstairs) if they are open by then. The play then MCB, Union Street, or Majestic/Garden Bowl for drinks.

Have people park in the lot behind the 13th precency since it is free (little known secret). If people want to get there early Detroit Artist Market will be open to buy some cool, last minute gifts.

Another place to go after the show if people are willing to drive is Northern Lights. Cool environment, shuffle board and good music.

I think it took a pretty big hit when GM moved out. Used to have a decent number of union guys form the facility hanging out there.

Great food, way too smoky for my taste.

I remember that place - you are correct about the customers, I used to meet a friend that worked at GM there. Was very smoky, I don't smoke but my friend did
