The new Canadian television series: "Across the River to Motor City" airs November 22nd on Windsor's A-Channel. People in Michigan, (if they break out their bunny ears) may be able to watch it in channel 60 (cable in Detroit/area does not broadcast that channel). Are there any other current Detroit-based television shows on the air? http://www.playbackmag.com/art icles/magazine/20061127/motorc ity.html From the article: The series invokes the days when Windsor and Detroit enjoyed a greater sense of community, despite the border, and is meant to put forward a less isolated, less inward-looking view of Canada, he says. "The key to Across the River was to recognize that Canada and the U.S. are neighbors, and to recognize that Canada plays a role in the world that isn't exclusively limited to hockey." |

"Director Michael DeCarlo (Hemingway vs. Callaghan) and DOP David Greene (Siblings) shot 90% of the series in Hamilton and Toronto on a mix of locations and stages" Maybe they were referring to a different Motor City? |

The whole 9/11 thing had a lot to do with cutting Windsor and Detroit apart. You used to be able to cross the Ambassador no problem, not anymore. I think Canada is pretty diligent about terror threats though. |

"You used to be able to cross the Ambassador no problem, not anymore. I think Canada is pretty diligent about terror threats though." It's still that way with the Tunnel. Now we need a passport to go over there. |

No, you still don't need a passport to enter Canada. And if Michigan joins in, you'll be able to use an enhanced version of your driver's license to get back to the US. http://www.theglobeandmail.com /servlet/story/RTGAM.20071115. wpassp1115/BNStory/National/ |

I've yet to have any trouble crossing the border, bridge or tunnel - just have the proper documents and don't smart mouth the officers |

"Travel without passports between the NAFTA countries is becoming greatly restricted: the NAFTA countries are the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and after an announcement on September 2, 2005[14] (Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative), all persons entering the United States by airplane, including its own citizens, were required to have a passport, even from Canada and Mexico, starting January 23, 2007. On January 1, 2008, the passport requirement will also be extended to all sea and land border crossings.[15] The Canadian Government has responded to this by stating that soon United States citizens will be required to have a passport to enter Canada." |

That's really outdated. It's been extended to June 2009 that you do not need a passport by land thanks to the hard work of your own diligent lawmakers, Conyers and Levin. |

I caught the first episode yesterday. The producers made good use of various shots of the Windsor/Detroit region, with a heavy focus on the river. Focusing on the river makes one realize how the real life blood of the region has always been the mighty Detroit (which had been the vital link to the area long before I75 was ever thought of). |

I thought the first episode had a ridiculous storyline- I will pass on the rest of episodes- some of the urban landscapes were obviously shot in Hamilton- esp. the scene at the cemetery- overlapping the Ambassador Bridge with neon of the Fox does not make it a local show by any stretch... |
