Who owns all of that vacant land across from Crosswinds? Are there multiple owners? Have there been any development plans floated in recent years?

What gives?

It seems like a big enough parcel for a huge, contiguous brand-spanking new convention center.

Google Earth shows about 4 virtual buildings there that aren't in the image. I guess they were demolished since the image was taken.

That parcel is smaller than the footprint of Cobo, which is too small. So no, I doubt that.

There are numerous owners fot that land. Most if not all are speculators who have owned there for a long time. The largest landowner os Berry Gordy, because that is where Motown records was headquartered before they moved out to LA.

The Motown headquarters used to sit on that corner. It was demolished prior to the Superbowl.

For awhile, Motown had a holding letter on the SE portion of that land in anticipation of the development and construction of a Motown Museum. Not sure what the current status is with that project.

Future site of a 90-story mixed-use building including a convention center, grocery store, parking garage, casino, and Cheesecake Factory.

Oh. Too far, huh?

Berry Gordy wanted to build a Motown Museum on that site... but only 1 problem... he wanted everyone else to pay for it...

If an arena does come to that site, I hope it's located west of Park Ave, so that the block along Woodward can have retail/residential.
