Macy’s provides free program for families to “check-out” local museums

Spending the day at a local museum or cultural attraction can prove cost prohibitive for many local families. These families want and deserve an enjoyable and educational experience, and Detroit-area retailer, Macy’s, is helping to make that possible starting today.

In a first-of-its-kind partnership in Greater Detroit, Macy’s, Detroit regional public libraries (through the Library of Michigan Foundation) and the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan have teamed up to help families afford a chance to enjoy local arts and cultural organizations through “The Museum Adventure Pass, presented by Macy’s.” This program is a partnership between 162 metro area libraries and 25 local arts and cultural organizations providing library card holders free passes to local museums, cultural centers and historical sites.

Starting October 25 card holders are able to go to their local library and check out the “Museum Adventure Pass” like they would check out a book. Libraries participating in this program span six Southeastern Michigan counties; Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, St. Clair, Livingston and Macomb. For a complete listing of participating libraries, please visit: www.detroitadventurepass.org.

“The Museum Adventure Pass, presented by Macy’s is a truly innovative approach to education that Macy’s is thrilled to support,” said Frank Guzzetta, Chairman and CEO of Macy’s North. “Our hope is that people who may not have access to the wonderful local arts and cultural scene will use this program as a learning tool for themselves and their families, and realize their local libraries are a great place to learn about something new.”

Library card holders can receive up to two or four complimentary admissions to 25 of Southeast Michigan’s world-class arts and cultural institutions including the Automotive Hall of Fame, The Detroit Institute of Arts, Cranbrook Art Museum, and many more. Each library branch, as well as bookmobiles, will have five passes for each of the organizations available for check out.

So what are you waiting for, visit your library and “check out” a museum! Museum locations and events, as well as participating libraries, program guidelines and much more is available online at www.detroitadveturepass.org.
