82%, which was a helluva lot better than I anticipated.
The dance show questions got me to thinking about Barbara and Ree-Ree from The New Dance Show. *sigh*

Yeah, the place is still vacant.

72%, but not bad for someone who doesn't know shit about Detroit's boomer-era dance shows and dance clubs. What's with all the dance questions.

With majority C's in this thread, it basically says that we don't know as much of Detroit's history as we thought.

There are all subsets of history, Detroitrise. Those questions weren't all history - many were recent regional culture. I've only heard of jit from videos on YouTube - had no idea it started here (if it even did) and when was 7 Mile chosen as the favorite street? I missed that poll.

JohnLodge and Lilpup, that one got me too. I just knew Jefferson would be the choice of the 4.

7 Mile is a nice street with a lot of history, but I think deeming a street as favorite is all in personal choice.

i got a 70%. but i have one question. yes, of course, young boys inc. was the infamous west side gang, but were primarily drug dealers. but there was also the sconi oni.. the errol flynn's, and the seven mile dogs, six mile dogs, and the X-men (which I was 1). And i heard more about them than the YBI. just wondering...

Nah, anyone off 7 Mile (including me) even knows that Woodward or Jefferson is better than 7 Mile. This person apparently doesn't come into the city that often.

Tie-breaker:

Why are the streets of the city all fucked-up?

1. The French laid streets out parallel and perpendicular to the river during their tenure.

2. The English laid out streets in a north-south/east-west fashion.

3. Former mayor Augustus Woodward rebuilt the city after the great fire, with a hub & spoke design similar to Paris and Washington DC. (i.e. Gratiot, Woodward, Michigan Ave., Grand River.)

4. Woodward is not named after the former Mayor.

5. The cities potholes were caused by Mayor Cavanaugh's administration. Mayors Young, Archer, and Kilpatrick haven't had the time to fix them.

6. All of the above.

7. None of the above. (Go cross 8-mile, do not collect $200 in welfare!)

I actually like the streets in Detroit instead of the ones in other cities (say Atlanta, LA, Cleveland, etc.). It's like a tree-style grid. That type of system relieves traffic. You have so many ways to get from one place to another.

So I choose 8. Did Jrvass Pull this question out of his ass?

I also question #35 and the one about Maurice Malone owning the warehouse (if they are talking about the club) The House of comedy and The Warehouse (the club) were owned by the same people and never owned by E. Stewart. BTW got 86%

80%

1. I think Woodward would be the most popular.
2. Wasn't YBI a pretty big gang in the 80's more than 70's? No mention of Pony Down.
3. To know about Roscoe's you would need to fall into a certain age group. Spent much time and many quarters there!

well, there were I believe FOUR incorrect/weird queestions:

Emmanual Stewards is still abandoned.

none of the "headquarters" listed were on Woodward and FORT

the stadium question was weird because it might have been misleading

and the question about a road having "consensus?" what did that mean?

other than those four, though, the quiz was pretty good. i was impressed that you had things like Roscoe's and the JIT in the same quiz! nice job.

I scored 78%, didn't know a thing about dance shows or roller rinks. The Pistons question was technically correct, in that it did not offer the Silverdome as an answer. I guessed on a few of them also. Fun little quiz though!

You think Detroits streets are screwed? Come to Europe, dude, and you can witness street planning done by the criminally insane. Street names change in the middle for no apparent reason, and residential streets where one driveway serves 4-5 houses deep, just to name a few.

I think Detroit has the best street grid in the Country (possibly World).

The only beef I have with it is the lack of proper Street Signage.

If Detroit has the best street grid in the country (if not the world) that doesn't speak well for the value of street grids to vibrant cities.

If New York, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore all have better downtowns and more thriving neighborhoods.

I agree with Chicago, but if you think those other cities have good stret grids, then check out the amount of traffic jams there during the 9-5 compared to Detroit. Not to mention that they lack the wonderful MI U-Turn.

I recently left Detroit (Michigan) to work/live in another nearby state. I had enough of the high taxes, housing and long commutes. My choice was personal and economic. I still have family and many friends in metro Detroit who I love dearly. When I heard that Detroit regained the title of "Murder City"....I was saddened. It seemed to be the nail in the coffin so to speak after the recent news of business's leaving, foreclosures and criminals still running the city and state. There are wonderful, good and decent people who still like in Detroit and don't kill each other...power is in the people. Get rid of the criminal leaders, city, council and state...take Detroit back...don't let the recent news media blitz on Detroit turn it into a ghost town. You have the power to make miracles happen. Don't let the media bring up the riots of 40 years ago to add to the recent statistics about Detroit as a catalyst to destroy this city. If you stand back and take this recent news posting, then you will prove them and the world correct..that Detroit is the Iraq of America...don't let them destroy Detroit.
