Here is a link I found to the demolition plans that are included in the DEGC's Request for Proposals. It's a large file (60+ MB) and it's not terribly detailed, but it gives a good idea of what's staying and what's leaving. Here's the link:

I had to go to the right side of the page in a box to find the link to the actual file.

BIG file, but interesting nonetheless. I liked the cutaway view on the last page...kind of cool to see the superstructure.

some of it is kind of curious where they are taking the seats out but leaving the tiers. What's the point in that?

and they are leaving the elevator tower but removing the overhead? Isn't that going to look odd?

I think it's odd too, but that's the plan. They're taking out the upper deck completely, just leaving a few of the tiers of concrete above the broadcast booth. The RFP does provide for an alternative to the plan, and has a contingency in the event they decide to demolish the entire stadium and preserve nothing.

Yeah, this is interesting... So it seems that they are keeping the first few rows of the upper deck, probably just for structural purposes to keep the broadcast booth. And interestingly enough, they are keeping the ramps to the upper deck...wonder if there will be a few rows of seats or if they'll just turn that deck into a roof.

It's too bad that they couldn't just keep the entire upper deck (plus 3rd deck/roof) just from dugout to dugout -- that would have been historically consistent with the Navin Field structure pre-Briggs expansion. ( http://www.ballparksofbaseball .com/past/DetroitsNavinFieldBW PC.jpg ) I'm not 'in the know', but since they are keeping the bottom half of the second deck anyway, I wouldn't think it would cost too much more to keep the 3rd deck/roof even if it was not used and just there for historical (and aesthetic) purposes.

For those of you who can't download the pdf, here are two of the pages showing what is being saved.

Once the demolition is done and the condos or whatever is built in place of the removed stands, am I'm right in thinking the ballfield is going to be enclosed again with the remaining stand and new construction?

Here are a few more photos of the Stadium taken this month, for those of you who are interested:

Well, it could indicate that they intend to replace the old seats with new seats.

But, hey, what do I know?
