Looks like they got a new bar and cafe, and the lobby looks quite chic,

an older looking Marriott Courtyard Lobby? hah

it was always a Marriott Courtyard, in the Millender Center, they just gave it a face lift to compete with RenCen and Ponch upgrades as well as all the new hotels coming online soon.

Has anyone checked out progress inside the Pontchartrain, now Sheraton Riverside renovation? I noticed last week that Sheraton signage was up around the building, but still covered.

The lobby & Sweet Lorraines have looked that good for the past several years. They completed a renovation of all the rooms last year. The article talks about this new renovation being for several larger meeting halls. Courtyard on Jefferson is a great place to stay and spend time downtown as it's central, thanks to the people mover, to a lot.

No it wasn't always a Marriott... it used to be an Omni Hotel when it first opened. Back in 1995 a friend of mine got married there at the Omni Hotel.

Apparently, Marriot wants to have a big piece of Downtown Detroit's comeback pie.

I haven't seen the progress for the Sheraton Detroit Riverside, but, according to the web site, it opens tomorrow (under the Sheraton name)
