Interesting piece from the venture capital and financial investment angle. I hope the Detroit Renaissance Fund comes through quickly to aid Metro Detroit companies.

Doesn't surprise me. This is pretty common knowledge in the startup community - I've been seeing this trend for the past five-six years. Also explains part of why so many startups are choosing Ann Arbor - where I get numerous reports of things doing well, counter to the rest of the state.

Maybe Attorney General Mike Cox should investigate... Look at the money that has started coming into Michigan since he investigated the Ford Foundation...

If you read that article from Crain's you will notice how they do mention the numbers can vary wildly from quarter to quarter based on when money is given out. MI was first in the 2nd quarter based on a couple large payouts in VC. Still need to increase the overall numbers if we want to get out of this economic slump faster.

I have known Howard Bell and Randal Charlton for about 3-4 years. They are doing a fantastic job over at TechOne. It is rather depressing to read about this business startup investment-related story in Crains regarding TechTown running in the red: http://www.crainsdetroit.com/a pps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/2007 1022/SUB/710220333/1070/-/-/-/ techtown-tries-to-find-new-fun ding
