The Michigan Citizen

DETROIT — Members of a newly-formed group, The Coalition to Restore Hope and Respect to DPS, said Sept. 24 that they want to see the Rev. Loyce Lester removed from chair of the DPS Law Enforcement oversight committee after disclosure of his felony record.

They cited his allegedly abusive conduct towards women at school board meetings over the last 20 months, including a Sept. 13 incident involving school board member Marie Thornton.

“Two hundred DPS employees have been discharged after the discovery that they had felony records, even for non-violent offenses,” said Theo Broughton. “Lester has also created a distraction in school board meetings, the community and the media from the real issues faced by our children in the schools.”

I'm going w/ the Free Press on this one. They had plenty of time to investigate, Lester would have been charged if he had done anything wrong. Similarly, Thornton wouldn't have been charged if she had been provoked.
