Does anyone have a list of which DPS schools are sitting vacant? Where can I find it?

I think there is a list on the DPS site. They have a listing of the buildings that are vacant and for lease.

Is there anything worth having on the list? Not that I need a building, but I just wondered.

Because DPS would rather let these properties sit and rot than sell to a non-public school and pump the proceeds into a deficient budget. So, the charter schools will just go down the street anyways, while vacant DPS property becomes worth less and less.

They aren't going to sell.. because that is letting the wolf into the hen house. (prime choice for more private and charter schools to open up shop)

Who knows what could happen from the sale of the buildings. They turned the one school into lofts off Antietam I think called Leland Lofts.

Maybe one day there may be enough demand in the DPS and enough funds that these buildings are opened as schools again... maybe.

Good thing the DPS have all these empty buildings they pay for while they rent million dollar space in New center.

Such a waste. Kick them all out of their high class offices.

Some EVIL charter schools have either bought or lease a DPS buildings throughout the Detroit ghettohoods. Now black kids from the ghetto can get a decent white man's education.

Danny, the only charters that have leased building from DPS are the ones that are run by DPS. DPS refuses to lease/sell to outside charters.

One of my co-worker's sorority wanted to buy an old abandoned elementary school for an outreach program and DPS said no. They were prepared to pay a fair price, too.

It is a shame that DPS is hanging on to these buildings and paying an engineer to stay there and make sure the boiler and water is running, paying to cut the grass, and a for security detail. Ok, at least this is what DPS is saying is happening (about the security detail).

That is a shame because they should be happy if anyone want to buy their property. A recent Wayne County Treasurer's auction had to be stopped because of a lack of interested buyers. Only 205 of 2,600 properties sold. This is a terrible market for sellers and Detroit is particularly hard hit. Why not sell the school to a sorority that wants to do good work instead of letting it fall to the scrappers???

UM, because they are too busy getting Personal Protection Orders against people they've ignored enough to piss off completely?!

Even ministers?!

Now at least one of 'em will be too busy defending herself, she should step down while this lawsuit is pending...
