Not exactly Detroit related. Apparently Detroit's not the most toxic city in the U.S.

Hans: it's a badly designed page, you have to do a lot of mousework to get to the full list.

We're better off than Portland and Minneapolis?

AOL got the list from Business Week. The real article is posted here.

If you click on their slideshow, you'll see that Detroit ranks at number 8.

Well I'll be damned. At least were not first, and yes, Portland, land of splendor, beauty and progressive planning is worse than we are, ha ha.

How does New york City not end up on this list? I can't imagine they are all that non-toxic. Same thing with Cleveland.

yes, Portland, land of splendor, beauty and progressive planning is worse than we are, ha ha.

Look more closely at the numbers, not the over all ranking. Portland ranks worse than us because they have a lower population; it's a per capita stat. Thus, more residents there are affected because they have fewer people. Detroit boasts more contaminated sites and seven times more EPA corrective action reports required. Things aren't always as rosy as they seem. Ha, ha.

Cripes. Here we go again. Let's see. If we air-lifted 200,000 non-polluting law-abiding people out of the metro area, would that make a difference in our rank? Wait. That's not right. Maybe I'll get back to you when I come back from Chicago where it's worse then here.
