Michigan Football home opener at noon on Saturday. It's against a pushover opponent so getting tickets, from the box office or otherwise, shouldn't be too hard. A football Saturday on a warm, sunny day in Ann Arbor with 110,000 other people in a stadium is quite an experience. This can get a little expensive and is outside of the city, but is worth it for the memories.

Arts, Beats & Eats in Pontiac too.

The D is such a boring place. How can anyone stand to live here. :-)

Oh yeah, Dally in the Alley on deck for the next weekend.

Jazz fest for sure, make a stop at slows (a must), Cliff Bells Jazz always a treat if your the bar going type, put-put golf at the DIA, Riverwalk. Its too bad the tigers wil be on a road trip, that would have just crammed downtown with people. I'm excited for Dally this year hopefully the weather will be nice this time around and maybe less sunglass/shea butter stands and more stuff people buy (vintage clothes, cool custom t shirts etc)

Thursday night has a great show with Faruq Z. Bey at Cliff Bells. If you don't know who Faruq is check here: http://www.jazzspotlite.com/

Or this:

WRJC evening host Tony Mowod will be on hand at Arturo’s Jazz Theatre & Restaurant in Southfield for a party from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 to help kick off the International Jazz Festival. The event will feature the fourpiece band Bop Culture and a performance by Jazz pianist Rodney Reeves. WRCJ members will not have to pay a cover charge.

And of course....Jazzfest

If you come to the Hamtramck Festival, get your fill of Polish food from the Dudek booth. It's the best that is offered on the street! You should have your choice of fresh or smoked kielbasa with or without kapusta (sauerkraut), pierogi with different fillings, placki (potato pancakes), nalesniki (crepes), golabki (stuffed cabbage) and more.
I do not work for Dudek.....I've been going to the festival since it's inception back in my Hamtramck grade school days. I'm not even Polish...but I certainly learned to enjoy the food my hometown has to offer! I live in Lincoln Park now, but Hamtramck will always be my "hometown".

When can you pick me and my friends up? If we have to make a few stops to pick up other forumers, that's cool too.

Did any of you get to check out Bop Culture at Arturo's or Faruq Z. Bey and the Northwood Improvisors at Cliff Bell's last night? It was really great. The crowd at Cliff's was very small but they were way into the music. Two great local groups that show how powerful Detroit Jazz is. We are truly lucky to have such great talent here.

Tried to talk my gospel choir pianist friend (I'm the organist) into Bell's last night, but she was having none of it - school the next morning. I decided not to go alone. Saw FZB at the Bohemian a few months ago, really dug it.

And for all the time I wound up spending parked on I-94 (accident right where it narrowed to 1 lane at 16), I could have seen 2 sets at Bell's and driven up Gratiot. Grr.
