Channel 7 is doing a great job of covering it. It seems as if they're promoting the Detroit metro area well but is the message really reaching beyond Michigan? It should. I used to watch it in Arizona on the http://www.wxyz.com/ archives after a 24-hour delay but I had to search for it first. It seems to be something anyone in the country would love to watch. It's like an Americana special you might find on The Discovery Channel. If we're not playing this outside of Michigan, we're missing a great promotional opportunity. Maybe it would be better promoted as a national event that just happens to take place in Detroit? |

The best time to go is from about 9 AM-4 pm I found out. Traffic isn't quite as bad and thats when the bulk of the "oldies" showed up. I was stuck for about an hour and a half at the 696/Woodward mix with all the excessive traffic and saw about 7 old cars and 40-50 from the 90s or later. if you want to market it as a national or international event, ENFORCE the cruiser lanes. I was getting a little irritated that those lanes were so congested largely due to 90's Pickups with kids hanging out in the back and people driving around in Dodge Intrepids.People aren't going to come from all over to see ordinary cars being allowed to hog the cruiser lanes. This turns off a lot of people. Finally, the thing that turns off most people? The dang abortion bus. I drove by and got saluted by several middle fingers. I thought "What did I do?". It turns out, nothing. I looked next to me and was greeted by pictures of dead fetuses.I wish that idiot would just take the hint and go away. So, any of you see me out there? |

The Dream Cruise only gets a tiny little blurb on the news up here. Too many local things happening up here this weekend for people to pay attention to stuff down there. I HATE that abortion bus, so unappropriate, specailly when you are there with your kids. |

My Dream Cruise on Woodward was just crossing it at Cass Ave & M59 and back again at M59 to Cesar Chavez Blvd. (Oakland Ave.) 6:30am baby! Dropped off Howell melons at my parents house and went home. No muss, no fuss! Last year I avoided it by taking Dixie Hwy. to Sashabaw to I-75. Why can't they take that damn cruise to the sticks? Up M53 in the thumb... they can use the economic benefit. |

We spent the day out, and had a wonderful time. I agree, after 5, at least in Birmingham, the majority of cars were non-classic, but there were still plenty of good cars out. I got some good pix, too. Love the panorama pix. We were there in Ferndale around 10 in the morning. I think that Dodge Matador was my favorite car of the day. |

Is there a Woodward Ave on M53? I don't think the cruisers would be privvey to that idea. Keep it where it belongs. |

I avoided the 696 Interchange and found the flow better then previous years. But yeah, WAY too many late model cars were not respecting the cruising lanes. GM had a fascinating display set up at Athens that show cased all thier classic V8s. |

GAZ-was it a Dodge Matador or Amc matador? I saw an AMC out there, but the Dodge was a 50's car and I have never encountered one.If indeed it was, than I'm impressed. And angry that I missed it. My favorite thing about the cruise is that I see obscure oddities I've never seen before and probably never will again. For the first time EVER this year I saw an Opel Manta. I've seen plenty of pictures, but never a Manta in real life. Last year I got a glimpse of my first (and only)Austin Marina. |

It was a Dodge Matador. It's in Mthouston's panorama pix of Ferndale. The guy was from KC, Missouri, and was parked on Nine Mile east of Woodward. I have some more pix of it, but I haven't offloaded my camera yet. I'll post them here later, got more car stuff to do today. |

No Cincinnasty Kid, there is no Woodward on M-53 in the Thumb. It's still called Van Dyke all the way to Port Austin and the boat docks. Perhaps I was being too generous. Maybe they should take that goddamn roadshow to the UP or Ohio next year for the week. Maybe the finger lakes region of NY. Yeah... I give you the finger. I saw a Matador a few years back in a collector car trader. Never heard of one before.I found 1 picture in the American Car Spotters Guide for the 1960. Its very obscure. But, I've just seen photographic proof that one was out there. I spotted 8 other Gremlins over the week which is unprecedented, so with that in mind, I guess you can claim to have seen just about anything and I'd believe it. I know nothing will convince the cruise-haters to like the event, but I saw lots of blacks, some latinos, a few asians and arabs. All on the same road or same viewing spots. Everyone got along. Everyone enjoyed it. No animosity toward one another. For just a few days, the cars came out, everyone was there for the same thing, and they all put their differences aside and had a good time. When the out-of-towners bring their hot rods over, we get our act-together.Its one of the only things that makes me proud to be from this area. You guys can complain all you want, but despite its faults, the cruise brings the communities together. |

Sporto--the Green convertible coupe in your phot spread is a Kaiser Darrin. re: the American Legion cruise-in--the all stock model A Ford is just fine. Not everything needs a small block Chevy, and 100 years from now it might be nice for the school kids to see ONE car that was left the f___ alone, the way Henry made it. The way things are going, there might only be one or two left stock by then. |

I love the idea of the cruise, but the reality of the experience is far less than ideal for many of the parties interested in, or affected by the event as it happens. One thing that I feel would be a great event is to discourage the old cars from cruising Woodward and Friday and have a humongous car show at the Silverdome parking lot that can go on much later than the 9:30 cut-off the local police enforce for the DC. If you park your car at a given spot, there are only so many other cars you have an opportunity to see. If the Silverdome lots were full it would be a car show beyond comparison. No one respects or follows the lane-use recommendations, there are new cars in the classic cruisers lanes and old cars in the inner lanes for regular traffic (like anyone could get anywhere). Still have the cluster-cruise on Saturday, but how about trying to hit critical mass at one place |

I am not a professional promoter but it seems to me that there's a missed opportunity here for promoting Detroit. I'm aware that the Cruise takes place outside of Detroit proper but, beyond Michigan, few know of the difference between Detroit and her suburbs. Channel 7 showed some residents of Pleasant Ridge who were genuinely smiling about the occasion and showed no concern whatsoever about "Detroit's crime problem." What better way to counter Detroit's negative image than to promote the Dream Cruise nationally? Having seen the Cruise remotely from Arizona, I think there's something to gain from working the publicity networks a bit more aggressively. |

Very fine photos from so many of you. I have not been to the Dream Cruise since I cruised Woodward in a Jeepster with a Cadillac engine and then a '54 Bellaire back in the 50's. Tell me, someone, has there ever been a Crosley spotted in the Dream Cruise? Just one? That's the incentive I need to go. My neighbor took his '65 red Mustang convertible Sat afternoon from GP and said it was a zoo just getting onto Northbound Woodward. He says next year he will start by going South -bound on Woodward as he claims the show-traffic there is much less for some reason. |

I took my '84 Cavalier convertible out late morning and had a great time. We saw a lot of cool cars. The abortion stuff was disturbing to see and I wish that the "brilliant" person who thought of that would just go away somewhere else. I don't think it was a good way to press their agenda on abortion rights. I know I thought for less than 30 seconds on it. I was way too busy driving and looking at cars instead of aborted fetuses. |

That Dodge Matador was VERY nice! For those of you who can't stand getting around during the cruise, try side streets a mile east or west of Woodward. It will get you out of the jams on Woodward at 15 to 16, and I-696 underpass. For me the best cruising time is sunup to 2pm, then check out the car shows after that. |

Hey Hornist9, by any chance, did you have that ’84 Cavalier convertible at Dragonmead Friday night? We dropped by, & on the way out, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw, in their parking lot, a red Cavalier convertible straight out of the early 80s. I grabbed my camera out of my car & took a couple pix, which weren’t the best, since it was dark outside, & I didn’t have a tripod. If that was yours, sweet ride! |

I drove up Woodward from the theatre tour, to get a quick look at what i could. I had to laugh at the AMC Concord Wagon (at least thats what the emblem said, I would have guessed an Eagle, it sure looked like it from the angle I was at) with historic vehicle plates. Can't imagine putting those on my old 82 Eagle! Also liked the Livingston? County police car, complete with 'inmates' driving it, broke down under 696. Didn't so much like the idiots spinning their tires. I was waiting for someone to rear end a classic, and seeing a beat-down ensue. I thought the GM billboard at 8 mile with the Bel Air and the quote 'Other cities have art shows' was fantastic. Nicely done, GM. |
