Okay, here we go again. A few moments ago, about 3:53 or so, I was sitting at my desk & heard a loud, rumbling, lasting ka-boom-type explosion. I looked up as the rumbling continued & saw a flash of white light toward the East, between the river & Congress, but I don’t know exactly where it was. It set off several car alarms, & the seagulls all took flight & have been circling downtown. My coworkers came down to my office & asked what was going on. We can’t see any smoke or fires out there.

Anyone care to hazard a guess?

Just a guess, but an exploding transformer due to the heat and high electrical demand???

It wasn't that long ago when DTE had an underground explosion on/near Lafayette which blew one or more manhole, err. human-access, covers a considerable vertical distance.

Something like one/two hundred feet up, maybe. But then my memory fades.

It's too bad that the papers don't keep their archives as they once did. Otherwise, I'd know.

Maybe somebody remembers the altitude better. There was the expected terrorism chatter for a very short time when it happened.

This one doesn't mention an altitude, unfortunately.

Dabirch, is that what people mean when they say "a two-bit criminal"?

The papers keep archives, you just can't access them online for free.

But they are free at the Detroit Public Library
