Out of curiousity-is this building nice and a legitimate downtown living option? Many downtown buildings are discussed on this forum but I can't recall this one coming up in discussion.I would be interested to hear any positive or negative comments regarding this building.

All I know is that it was originally the Barlum Hotel. An old postcard proclaims, "Detroit's Most Convenient Hotel. 620 Rooms-$3.00 and up. Both Tub and Shower Bath in Every Room. RADIO IN EVERY ROOM-NO ADDED CHARGE.

Under the Hall of Fame Thread "Moving to Detroit" there was a discussion of this building under "Cadillac Apartments". Here's the link as well as the link to other discussions of places to live.

I've wondered about it myself. It definitly has the location and 1920s flair.

After looking at the prev. post on this Mbr mentioned and the website, I'd have to conclude this place looks like a downtown bargain. I'm excited about the downtown renovation projects and new investment going on right now-the casinos, Book Cadillac, etc.-but I hope that there will continue to be appealing, affordable apartments downtown. I'll be attending WSU after I graduate high school in a year and this will be high on my list of places to look at.

As a general rule for college, stick with the dorms your freshman year. It's an experience you'll never want to repeat but will be glad you did.

I agree Dustin, we need to make sure that cheap rentals, let alone any rentals, are a decent part of the downtown market.

I hope that a lot of for-purchase condos also get offered by their owners for rental, but I think too many are priced to high to allow rents to cover the payments.

In the long run, we need to hope for an infusion of new-construction apartment buildings in downtown and midtown; Bricktown is what I would really target as a great place to develop new residences.

Seriously, if you are going to WSU you should probably stick to the Midtown area, if not the dorms.

Yeah as much as living downtown has its perks, Midtown has plenty of options, many cheap, which would work great for a WSU student.

I also think we should have cheap luxury units on the River. Everyone should get a chance to enjoy the river, even if you're on Section 8.
