We are getting a steady heavy rain right now, much needed. Hope it clears up for the fireworks tonight! |

We're starting to get the sun full blast in SE Michigan. With the July Sun Angle, we can easily hit 80 degrees within 2-3 hours of sunshine (especially since it's at it's highest point). |

Severe WEather isn't completely out of the question looking at Upstream Stations in SW Michigan where the sun has been out all morning already around 80 degrees. THe threat should equally be a cross between Hail, Wind and Heavy Rainfall if Severe Weather Does develop. The Best Chance for it will be sometime after 3 or 4 O' Clock. |

And Without the Sun, Most SE Michigan sites were already in the Mid to Upper 70s. So this afternoon will be an interesting one. |

We already are. Flood Advisory (Urban and Small Stream) for Wayne, Monroe, Lenawee and Washtenaw Counties until 1:00 PM. And all of this isn't even round 2, the severe round. If you thought this current round was bad, wait until the day gets through good. |

When it comes to severe weather, a pretty Significant Clearing line is Bulldozing into SE Michigan as I speak and as it does, the sun should come out in full blast and heat us up fairly quickly (areas inside the dry slot have already reached 90 and with 70 degree dewpoints, heat indices are exceeding 100). In addition, that will help the atmosphere to become very condusive for Severe (at least right Now) Wet Microbursts (Frequent Cloud to Ground Lightning, Tropical Rains). One Short Term Model showed CAPES around or exceeding 3000 J/KG late this afternoon and Lifted Indexes going as low as -6 (all those favor fat updrafts for Severe Convection). That's the thing. These next round of storms just pop up out of nowhere once the Dynamics and Forcing all comes together. The Wind Shear Is Already in Place, The Moisture is definitely in Place, The Instability is building, now we must wait on the activity to begin popping up like Popcorn. The only Thing We Don't Have is All the Upper Level Support (Lapse Rates are only modest), just the Wind Shear organizing any fat updrafts and downdrafts together. You also need a Forcing Mechanism for them to pop up and it looks like the Outflow Boundaries will serve as that. They must reach their Convective Temperatures (Dewpoint-Temp Warm Air Parcel) though before they can become active. Looks like something is trying to intensify east of Lansing. I'll have to watch it, although at this point it just seems to be a harmless downpour. |

Funny you say that Bohemian... I just gave up on trying myself. They were too far north of me (in Dearborn) by the time I decided to try. I did get a couple distant ones but I missed the closer big ones by a few minutes. |

Here are a few of the shots I got. Nothing special with the lightning, though. As I said I got out too late for the lightning for my northwest facing balcony. I should have just stayed from shooting the sunset.

Pretty crazy light show at the Dave Matthews concert @ DTE last night. 50 minute delay in starting the concert. A lot of people running for shelter off those viewing hills. Major storm right now downtown. It is kinda crazy trying to find adequate shelter in Comerica from one of these weathermakers. |

Blub, blub! We went to Scotty Simpson's in Brightmoor for dinner, and the storm hit while we were in there tonight. We waited it out and left, but the streets around were all flooded, clear up to Seven Mile. We did manage to get through it all, but it was pretty impressive. |

Does anyone else besides me think that WDIV’s coverage of this latest thunderstorm is massive overkill? It’s now after 8:00 PM, the storm passed over the metro area over an hour ago, and they’re still on the air. They have preempted every show since 6:30 PM including the national news so they could tell us it’s raining. Well, I can tell that by looking out the window. Besides, if I was really into the weather, there are several 24-hour weather channels to which I can tune. I think this is another example of how very unsophisticated our local TV news is. |

Ramcharger There were several tornado touchdowns, Fenton, Howell, and Livingston has sustained some major damage, I 75 is completely shut down due to flooding and there are 70,000 + people out of power according to DTE, I'd say it was one of the worst storms in the last 3 years. |

"Does anyone here not think that we are affecting the weather in some way?" This kind of weather happens all the time (not so often in Michigan, but it has happened before). It'd be foolish to blame a one-time weather event on anything but normal weather oscillations. |

Thanks Lowell Tonight I kept saying at the rate the storms are coming they'll be here at 7, right at show time tonight where I work. And at about 7 I was going to check the radar and just then the power went out sending the theatre into total darkness. Luckily things were up again within 10 minutes and the show went on. But other than that it was a pretty calm big storm down in East Dearborn. Nothing at all like what they got northwest of us. |

Clark, I believe the climate is changing and our actions are causing it. Extremes in weather are a result. For example: We went weeks without rain and then all of a sudden in a few days it rains a ton. Last winter was mild in December and for most of January then all of a sudden it doesn't get above 10 degrees for a week or two. The longer we avoid reality the worse things will get. I'm not political about it but I believe it is happening. I wish I lived back when we didn't know any better. |

Did anyone else watch the coverage on channel 7 from 10:30 to 11. It was like they had no teleprompters and did not know what to say. It was very hard to watch. All they did was say what they saw and were mixed up to hell! |

I'm not saying climate change is a myth, and I do think it's at least in part human-caused. I'm just saying that storms and tornadoes have always happened every now and then in Michigan. You can't blame global warming every time the weather gets bad. This has been the first real significant tornado event in SE Michigan in quite a few years, but not even close to being the worst ever. |
